How To Start an Art Channel on YouTube: 5 Tips Nobody Tells YouTube Artists!

Here are my five tips for starting an art channel on YouTube! These are the things to consider before you even start a channel and the mindset you need to have before you begin, but these topics can also help you if you are already a YouTube artist that is struggling to get views or subscribers! This video is NOT a tutorial walking you through how to set up a channel. This video DOESN'T give you a list of cheap beginner equipment. Instead, it gives you a different way to look at the content you want to provide and the reasons why you should want to start in the first place!

😂 Can you buy me an iPad, I can't even imagine that. Personally I prefer to watch educational over entertainment. Great tips. 👍

I’ve watched other artists give tips and advices for small art channels, but the ones you provide in this video are way more valuable.
Thank you for the motivation and for being straightforward.

It blows my mind that random strangers are messaging you that often just asking you to buy them things. That just seems like such a bizarre and rude thing for somebody to do. I mean even if you were well off enough to do it, it's ridiculous for an internet stranger to come ask for it out of the blue like that, and especially the fact that they are asking for such wildly expensive things.

BeeJay…THANK YOU for being straightforward, patient, logical and using common sense in explaining this process. I could not agree more that our purpose is to provide VALUE. I am an artist among other things & I do not have a You Tube channel for that, but might in the future as I decide what and how I want to go public. I am just retiring from 52 years as a Hospital/Clinical Pharmacist but have been drawing since I was knee high to a grasshopper (as they used to say)! I too invested in an iPad Pro 2 years ago and have been painting, mostly for others…birthdays, honors, special gifts…(printed on canvas) and more. I do use Procreate and am still learning. Your approach and wisdom are palpable and I greatly appreciate what you bring. Jimm,
P.S. I agree with the guy who posted just ahead of me….People who want something for nothing…’would you give me an iPad genre people’…are selfish, go out and earn it like the rest of us!

You and about 3 other YouTubers do a wonderful job teaching Procreate. I recommend your channel a lot.

These were some great tips. I especially agree with you about doing real time videos (what I do on my channel) as I realized I learn better when I get to watch from beginning to end and so I try to provide that for my viewers. It show that people like that as my watch percentage is also higher on those videos, meaning people watched for longer while hopefully learning something. I guess I'm on the right track :)

Probably the most helpful video I've watched in a long long time. Thank you for your honesty and detail. Really appreciated!!!

I clicked your vid for the art tips, and had to show my respect for what you have just done for these kids. I had this issue years ago with the viewers chasing free things and the pressure that has on creators. well said! not many have the balls to do this! all those who see this comment, give this man a follow for simply giving you the reality of this game. peace and love brother

BEEYay!! Thank you for saying "Just because you put the word 'Tutorial' in the video title, does not make your Time-Lapse video a Tutorial." When people do this, it drives me crazy-er than I already am. This is a great video overall! I just discovered you and look forward to watching your other videos.

I really want to start a channel but I can’t seem to nail down my art style. BUT while searching about starting a channel, I found your channel and that is very exciting. Great content!

I'm just getting started with leveraging youtube to build an audience, provide value, and bring people to my courses. You're providing huge value here. Also, your subscribers have almost doubled since you made this!

I love your videos for all these reasons! I’ve just started with Procreate as a complete newbie and you don’t assume I know a thing which is awesome, cos I know nothing… about Procreate that is! Following your step by step stuff has taught me so much. My fave video so far was the one you did with your wife as the things she struggled with was me to a T! I have a channel for mixed media stuff and follow all of what you talk about in this video… I wish more creatives would watch this video of yours before they start out! You didn’t get where you are in the first 5 videos you posted… it has been 3 years of hard graft. Thanks for all you share with us, I wish the world was filled with more people like you… it would be a much nicer place!

This is very interesting. Personally I only just started in Feb to document myself getting back into art after years of procrastinating. Then years of avoiding art all together, and back to procrastinating. Working on being more consistent, and still struggling with editing, but it's a huge learning experience. No expectations only using my phone with a mount, just want to be able to look back and see how far I've come, if people want to watch too that's a bonus 😊

I'm primarily a digital artist who had been trying out streaming on twitch for some time. This gives a lot more insight on what to expect from sharing content, regardless of the platform! My goal will mostly be to share my work with friends but it's good to be prepared, as you said. Thank you for the information!

Great info! I, for one, really appreciate these videos just as much as your art tutorials! Thank you for your time and effort!

I was playing with the idea of starting a YT channel to show my art I do with Procreate. Already after your first 2 tips I decided against it, because you're absolutely right. There are already tons of art channels out there that are 'disguised' as tutorials, while they are really not and if they are, they're quite bad. Well, anyway, thanks Beejay, for preventing me to set myself up for failure ;-)

Super helpful tips! I personally just want to share my ideas and characters because I love talking about them but dont want to annoy my friends by talking about them for hours and I'm hoping to help people feel inspired and represented
