Thanks for the teaching, it was very informative and appreciated the honesty in trying to convey all the different views. I would like to hear your view on Ezekiel 36:25-27, because when it was brought up, you said that it will turn against you (hope I am not misrepresenting you). I would like to hear why you said this, as it does seem to make sense that this could be a possible interpretation. The reason why I say this is because of Jesus' first response to Nicodemus in verse 3 when he says you have to be born again/from above (Gk: ἄνωθεν) in order to see the kingdom of God. As such, it seems to me best to see Jesus' response in verse 5 as an elaboration on his first answer and therefore it is possible that he is elaborating on what he meant with ἄνωθεν. If we take this approach and view Jesus' response in v5 as an elaboration of v3, it seems most natural to take the prepositional phrase 'of water and the Spirit' (ἐξ ὔδατος καὶ πωεύματος) as a single unit. This, combined with the possibility that Jesus seemed to expect Nicodemus to understand what he was saying (v10), leads to one thinking that Jesus was referring to a teaching found in the Old Testament. If this is the case, then Ezekiel 36:25-27 makes the most sense, as it speaks of God making a promise of the new covenant which entails him cleansing us from our filthiness and idols with the sprinkling of clean water and giving us a new heart and spirit and putting his Spirit within us.

I am not saying that this is correct, I would just like to hear your thoughts on this, as this view seems to make sense to me as well, thanks brother. Anyone else that wants to comment or answer is also welcome.
