What is Leadership Coaching?
Показать описание
Leadership Coaching … it’s a term you may have heard, but what the heck does it actually mean?
Maybe it’s like sports coaching…
“Hey, team, I need ya to go out there, give it 110%, and do the sports!”
Or maybe it’s like coaching those hot-shot CEO types...
“Ok, Elon, bro - here’s what we discussed for your goals for next year, ok? Listen up! Quarter 1: crush it, Q2: crush it some more, Q3: crush it from outer space, Q4: build a time machine, travel back to Q1, and crush it harder than it’s ever been crushed!”
Or maybe leadership coaching is just fluffy conversation – probably doesn’t even get results…
“Good talk. Just keep doing what you’re doing. If it’s broke, don’t fix it. And remember, wherever you are, you are there.”
Ok, so it’s none of those! Let’s get clear about what leadership coaching really is.
I’m Glenn Taylor with Skybound Coaching and Training, and in this video I’ll explain what leadership coaching is all about.
First things first, leadership coaching is not the same thing as mentoring, consulting, therapy, or sports coaching.
Mentors tend to give advice based on their own experience.
Consultants provide analysis and solutions based on their expertise.
Therapists facilitate personal functioning and healing, often related to past experiences or trauma.
And sports coaches usually do a mix of teaching, telling, and motivating.
Leadership coaching is different.
It’s about collaborating with you to help you find your own answers.
So a coach is a partner, who guides you towards more clarity about the leader you want to be, some self-awareness around what you want to change or improve, and the ability to take action to actually make it happen.
Now, you might be asking: “What does that actually looks like in practice?”
Glad you asked!
In practice, coaching occurs through conversations, either in person, over the phone, or through video conference. A coach uses certain superpowers they’ve honed … at Hogwarts!
Ok, maybe not.
But coaches do use superpowers they’ve been trained and certified in, like:
● active listening
● asking powerful questions
● making observations
● challenging assumptions
● providing a framework for taking action and staying accountable
The client then goes out between coaching sessions to put their learning into action.
Leadership coaching can be beneficial to anyone, at any level, at any organization,...anywhere, …on any planet, …in any dimension, …in every universe! -- as long as they have the desire to grow and improve.
Ok, that’s it for now. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and I’ll see you in the next video.
