Full version of this video with deeper info and narration-
Narrated version, with full video (Kick Drum EQ For Live Sound & Recording- Mixing Tips Using The Behringer XR18, X32, Midas MR18, M32) is here:

In this video a Behringer XR18 is being used as the mixer. The GUI and technique is also applicable to the Behringer X32, Midas M32, Midas MR18, and X-Air series. X-Air Edit PC software is shown. Recorded to Reaper DAW.
The overall EQ concept is cross platform information that can be applied to other mixers, and also DAW plugins. The GUI, or real life surface and controls might look different on your audio mixer or equalizer, but they do the same basic things.

The bass drum sound (kick drum sound) is typically the foundation of your mix. Kick drum, bass guitar, and maybe keys or key bass typically fill in that general space in the music. Live sound reinforcement and studio techniques can bring your audio drum mix to life. EQ (equalization) is where much of that is accomplished beyond the channel faders.
Understanding the EQ section of your console or software, and learning how to apply that to individual drums is a fundamental part of audio engineering. Where to cut and where to boost frequencies on the equalizer for any instrument or voice, including the drumkit, will help you develop and train your ear to help with your drum mixes, and band mixes in general.

thanks for making this, amazing. You just took a 3 hour course and condensed 80% of what you need to know into 2 minutes without saying a word. lol. This is the perfect example and it highlights and SHOWS you what's happening in real time. Just perfect. Thanks again.

This is great straight to the point. This help me to get a better understanding with the kick. It would nice if you could continue with the rest of the drums. Like snare, toms etc.. once again thank you for this video.

This is a companion video to the full, narrated video: Kick Drum EQ For Live Sound & Recording- Mixing Tips Using The Behringer XR18, X32, Midas MR18, M32 which is here:
The full video contains more overall information, but it was requested to have a way to have longer listens to the EQ changes, without any of the narration taking away from the kick drum audio. So, this video snippet is in response to that request.
I'd definitely recommend watching the other video as well for better context since this video is meant as a companion piece to the full video.

Hi Alan. It would be amazing if you could do a tutorial on the Midas Dn 8416-o. Specifically how to use it in a IEM monitor application with the Xr 18 and how the stage connect option could possibly work so you don't have to use a fan snake from the outputs. Thank again. Love your tutorials

I am little confused. That kick drum sounds like there is a Gate activated on the channel, but as I see on the screen, there is no gate. Probably the kick drum was recorded with gate. My suggestion is, do not use gate during EQing drums, use it after EQing is done. And one tip how to find sweet spot of low mid you want to reduce. Try the metod that you boost it firts, try to find frequenci, where the kick drum sounds worst, is resonating, and than reduce.

Is this EQ native to a specific DAW or can it be purchased as VST?
