This was a fascinating analysis, well done!
Having played from the start of HSR, it was interesting to see how new 5* made old characters obsolete. I remember benching Fire MC, Natasha, and March 7th when Luocha was released, because he could sustain one team on his own, while Bailu + Gepard sustained team 2. Then as soon as Fu Xuan was released, Bailu + Gepard got benched.

Funnily enough, I dusted off Gepard yesterday toteam up with Fu Xuan on the higher levels of Gold and Gears. I don't think it's possible to complete that without running double sustain, so it was fun to use him again.

I've used Fire MC since day 1 in my main party. I recently got Clara with the free picker after 300 standard pulls. Clara can put out a hell of a lot more damage but Fire MC just doesn't die. Powercreep or not, the fact that MC can add/refresh shields on every party member, every turn, with any action, and let's not forget taunt, still puts him near the top of my list of favorite characters to use.

i think its good to mention in the sustain category was that the reason why the free sustains got such a huge dip in usage was because of lynx being in fu xuans banner, there was practically no reason why anyone would use natasha or the more readily available sustains anymore since even if they got unlucky or needed another sustain on second team, they could just use lynx. Im expecting another dip in usage now that she is in pure fiction.

As an engineer i love seeing analytical stuff like this.

Since the first day I had Luocha, he is never unused in MoC & SU. Being the only healer in the game that provides a 'Lifesteal' style of healing, I believe he will stay very relevant in the game for a looong time. His kit (to me at least) provides more control and predictability to healing my party members due to him not requiring his ult or turn to provide the healing.

bronya was used less in beginning due to lack of accessibility. doesn't pertain just to me, but I recently had the 300 pull a couple months ago which I used to get her.

You should also address the weakness seasons. Like Jingliu and Pela or Ruan Mei being ised more is because of the weakness of Ice being g there recently

So far, starting with Ruan mei, all of the new characters have had good synergy with pre-existing characters. Ruan Mei increases the value of any break oriented characters like Luka and Himeko, Dr. Ratio does the same for debuffers like Silverwolf, Guinaifen and especially Topaz, Black Swan and Kafka is insane, and Sparkle will do the same for Seele, QQ and DHIL. With the recent difficulty spike making the investment required to brute force off element incredibly high, this pattern of new+old having synergy as well as the ability to directly affect meta through enemy weakness seems to be decently effective at combating power creep.

LOVE seeing all this data with such a competent interpreter to guide me, amazing work! I found the trends in the sustain characters to be especially interesting. Everyone made due until they got their two primary sustains and then those characters never left their teams. I personally am a Luocha+Huohuo gamer for my two sustains, and I love them both!! i ended up getting huohuo because Fu Xuan dodged me on her first banner
