I remember watching this when it was first released in 2012. I've watched it at least a dozen times since.

I think this is the most honest, non judgemental, scientifically sound information on obesity that I've seen. It doesn't offer any solutions, except for the scientific explanation behind our horrible food supply in Western Civilization.

One of the most informative and most important documentaries, related to health, posted on any site. I have been following Dr. Lustig and his publications for about a decade, and most of those who have inspired or worked with him, and I have the utmost respect for the work they have been doing for the good of humanity. And I practice almost 100% of what he teaches. Result: no obesity or any kind of illness in our family of five; not even a headache, cold of fever, which results in ZERO dollars spent in any drugs during many years. We are almost 100% wheat, corn, soy, and sugar free; without using artificial sweeteners.

The more you cook your own food, the less salt, sugar, fat or additives of processed foods you'll eat. Cook from scratch (includes processed staples) and you'll avoid the excess.
Take responsibility, stop blaming others, and do what you need to. I'm in the US too, yet I'm not fat, in fact I'm skinny!

See, I have polycystic ovarian syndrome because my mother and her mother have it (both were never over 110 lbs and healthy) as does my sister, but I'm the only one whose metabolism it impacts. When I was 11 and started gaining weight without any change in diet or exercise my doctor casually said "Watch your sugar intake" like it didn't really matter because the sugar levels in my blood have always been normal. I wish she'd given me this explanation then.

You can eat fairly healthy at Panda Express. Steam veg, mushroom chicken or black pepper chicken.

When he said there is nothing natural on this planet that contains carbohydrate and fat at the same time, he meant to say sucrose and fat. Sucrose can be found in very small amounts along with fatty fruits, but it is VERY small. Also the body digests natural sugars in a way that causes little to no weight gain in moderate amounts, while man-made sugars is VERY easily absorbed and turned into fat as storage. This whole video is primarily focused on sucrose/high fructose corn syrup (HFC), with fructose being the culprit behind all these problems. Not to mention over consuming sucrose or HFC, and god forbid consuming an excess amount along with fatty foods. As a dietetics major, I believe most of his information is true. This endocrinologist knows MOST of what he is talking about.

this explains why simple carbs work as a pwo esp after lifting. I used to eat just fruit which is fine and dandy-the fructose in it is counterbalanced by fiber and water-but does not replenish muscle glycogen and goes to the liver instead.

White sugar is just empty calories, Rapadura sugar is relatively low in calories, containing just 15 calories per 4 g serving and it also contains potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A as well as trace amounts of B vitamins. So it's better for you and tastes better too :)

I lost 38 pounds in less than 6 weeks after quitting refined sugars (and I wasn't that big to begin with). I also stopped getting migraines, and stopped getting sick so often.

Dr. Lustig is quite the educator. Thanks for keeping it simple Doc. I learned what sugar is (glucose and fructose) and how both are metabolized and utilized in the body. When I exercise mostly walk I notice I start sweating at the liver. I am assuming this how the body gets rid of liver fat?

Sucrose is the organic compound commonly known as table sugar and sometimes called saccharose. A white, odorless, crystalline powder with a sweet taste, it is best known for its nutritional role. The molecule is a disaccharide composed of the monosaccharides glucose and fructose with the molecular formula C12H22O11. The word was formed in mid-19th century from Latin sucrum = "sugar" and the chemical suffix -ose.

I have been taking the rocalabs formula for 4 months now and have lost a total of 37.5lbs. This is the easiest weight loss program I have had, tried everything but didn't work. I love the fact that there are no diet restrictions and I can eat whatever my family is having for their meal. The only difference is that I am eating half of what I used to.

Anyways this guys heart is in the right place. He wants to help people get better... and that is the goal of the medical field. To improve our expanding life stages. I love his animation films too. And some of things he explain, he explains them well. He would make a very interesting profession in basic Biology 1 course. I know with the strategies he uses in this series it can make learning anything possible. Thank you for posting this series and making a playlist. You're awesome UCTVPrime.

Fructose also increases the risk of gout . Liver accumulate ADP which is converted to uric acid...

It's not necessarily about banning sugar; it's about eating less. And trying to eat less things like doughnuts, candy bars, soda etc. because while they are good, they're not very nutritious and they can be hard to burn off through exercising. No matter how good or bad your metabolism is, you should still choose the best foods for your overall health.
