If I ever need advice, this is there place to go. It's reall advice not sugar coated nonsense. Side grades are useless you will just end up upgrading again in a few years anyway. Better to shelf the minor performance gains, for major ones.

Love this channel!

I don't think any upgrade could replicate the feeling I had when I upgraded from a Ryzen 3 1200 to a Ryzen 9 3900X lol

You spoke truth. I went from a 3900XT to a 5900X (yes i know, I'm THAT guy), and honestly cannot feel any significant difference apart from benchmark numbers.

we are too deep in AM4 to not wait for AM5 at this point

I went from AMD FX 8350 to 5900x, sweetest upgrade I ever had.

I have to agree I'm a 3900 X owner, and user, and I'm not upgrading until the new socket comes out. Great video clip. Echo

Went from a 3950x to a 5900x, big difference for me in performance. The multicore performance is nearly the same, but the single threaded advantage and lower latency helps in CPU intensive games. Went from around 130FPS in Warzone to well over 200fps

Shorter answer to this question is.
NO.
3900x (12 core)
5900x (12 core)
SAME CHIP slightly faster
Wait til 2 generations later when all the bugs adns drivers are updated.
Hope this helps.

I'm personally going to upgrade from my Ryzen 3600X to either 3950X or 5900X.

I upgraded from a 3570k to a 5900x, 32Gb of Ram. It's like a different world for me, I think it was the right time for an upgrade, see you in another 9 years!

I strongly suggest more cores over pure speed. !40 fps is hardly different from 180 fps in how games look and feel. However, being able to game, stream, run Discord and browse all at the same time is a tremensous difference on a 24 thread than on a 12 thread. Muli-tasking is the mainstream now, cores are the key.

Excellent, excellent, excellent perspective! You completely put me at ease with staying with my current 3900x and holding out a few more seasons. Thank you!

2600x owner here - waiting for the 6000 series for a new build, min of 12C 24T...if you are gonna upgrade then upgrade, no half ass measures

3900X here as well. Going high end but skipping every other generation imho provides the best "value" for enthusiasts.

Lol 0:30 that look on Mr. Techs face is priceless. "Hold the Brakes Expression" you read my mind with this upgrade path.

I was able to sell my 3700x now using a 5800x for gaming, with a 3070 couldnt be happier

watched rhis again cause I have a 3900x @ 4.5ghz all core oc, 3080ti. @ 2100mhz with a custom loop gaming at 1440p 144htz and saw there will only be a 5800X3D released and no 5900X 3D varient. I will wait for AM5. Thanks for keeping me in the Enthusiast section of the room...

On a whim, I did a search for this topic hoping to land on your channel- and it happened. Thanks for explaining this upgrade path, I'm long overdue for an upgrade from a 4790k, and wasn't sure if purchasing an R9 5900x over a 3900x was worth the extra $100 (not having owned either). The reason for this is because my old DDR3 memory crapped out, and the vendor cannot replace it for the same type. Instead, they can only offer a lower speed DDR3, or entry level DDR4 kit. To make use of that offer, I'll need to purchase a new CPU and motherboard ( already have the rest of the components). With Zen 4 approaching, I'm still stuck between going for the new, or go for what's currently available at bargain prices.

i got a 3700x a month or 2 after launch and i will probably be looking for deals on used amd chips in 2 years time(something like 3950x or 5900x) since i they will hold up in gaming just fine unless something drastic happens in cpu performance
