I have a 3900x and I don't plan on upgrading until I physically need to.

I was super lucky and was able to sell my 3700X for a decent price and upgraded to a 5900X back in January.

I went from 3900x to 5950 x 1440p zero regrets.

Now my 3900 x will live on as a virtual machine host

I went from a Ryzen 1800 to a 5950x and from a GTX 1080 to a RTX 3080 TI. Feels good.

still rocking the 3900x and its still perfect. No need to upgade. I run 1440p games, AI, stable diff, everything I could think of runs perfect. we have hit a peak and no youtuber can tell you other wise.

Maybe I will make this upgrade if I can find a good deal on the 5950X during Black Friday this year or next year. Would be good if I could keep the X570 mobo I while longer.

5950xt is coming according to rumors with 3D stacked cache and 15-20% more performance, I would wait for Zen 3 refresh and check if I can get one to upgrade from 3900x to get 2x performance basically

I was considering doing this a few months ago, but I was going to put the 3900x in another motherboard that I had and put the 5950x in my main rig. Unfortunately I could never get a good enough deal on the 5950x,

I had an option going from 3600 to 5900X or 5950X, both at MSRP. I went with 5900X and I have no regret.

at this point it would be worth waiting until you see the next gen of AMD chips for the big leap in speed.

Honestly if just for gaming. No point. I feel is much more worth upgrading it if you use your pc for gaming and for work. With the usage of gen 4 m.2 SSDs on x570 board. Else just for gaming leave it as it is. Save that money do other investment and generate more cash for next upgrade zen 4 maybe.

I have a 3900x, but in a MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX with 32GB 3600 mhz CL18 memory. The motherboard is great, but I think the Ryzen 9 3900x the maximum that it can handle in my Meshify 2 case. I was able to buy an RTX 3070 close to MSRP (this is where my money went), I will not bother for awhile to upgrade my system. It is fast, runs games well, for work it's amazing and my monitor is only 60 hz, so I'm not a competitive gamer, just a regular one, I'm good.

50% improvement is the metric. You need AT LEAST a 50% improvement in some metric for it to be "worth it." New GPU? At least a 50% improvement in performance, whether that's FPS or pixels pushed at the same FPS. New CPU? At least a 50% IPC (or perf per second) AND/ OR all core performance improvement.

Hey Tech and Rogue! I noticed that at 3:50 rogue suggests that one might need more than 32 gigs of ram with a 6900xt. I have a 2080 ti with 16 gigs of ram. Should I upgrade?

I'm sitting on an FX-8350 with 32gb and waiting.
The value just isn't there yet with any Ryzen...
because I'd have to replace my entire system.
I bought my FX-8350, mobo, and 32gb from someone who upgraded for less than $150.

I think the only people who should be buying the 5950x are those who will use it for actual work. I know a few that work in the field and they all say their time is more valuable than whatever the 5950x or TR costs, and I get that. On the other hand, if that guy is johnny gamerboy whose max use will be maybe streaming to twitch...There's no need to spend any money on an upgrade.
