Ooh, that is a gorgeous edition of The Color Purple! I am trying desperately to get my physical TBR down so I can buy some books (probably one at a time). It got way out of hand this year and the only way to address it was draconian measures (no-buy). You have inspired me to read Our Mutual Friend. The only Dickens I have read is A Tale of Two Cities which I just loved.

I've read The Color Purple multiple times. It's one of those books that every time I pick it up, I end up rereading it. But I haven't read it in decades, probably time to read it again. I'm not much for rom coms but I have heard good things about Beach Read.

Namaste Katie 😁, I loved most of the books you mentioned here and quite curious to know about the books Peking Picnic & Parallel Lives. I'll definitely try to see if I can manage a copy of Elizabeth Gaskell's - A Dark Night & Charles Dickens Little Dorrit & Our Mutual Friend. Am planning a whole year of Elizabeth Gaskell's works, 4 books by Brontes & maybe a few of George Elliot - in 2021, especially Daniel Deronda. I have never heard of Margaret Oliphant and this book is out of print, so will see if I can get something else written by this author. I joined the Novels by Dickens: 2021 Reading Project on Facebook, and am quite excited about it. They are going in publication order, which may not be ideal but it sounds like fun anyway! Because of your videos/recommendations, I have his last six books, so I have to purchase the first nine. I have been buying the Everyman's Library editions, but I don't think they are illustrated. Is there a book that discusses/collects the illustrations in his novels? Happy Holidays to you and yours!

in a great second-hand bookshop here in Bielefeld
I didn't know about the German set story / stories
in the collection.
