I almost cried when I saw you got One Hundred Years of Solitude for Christmas. 🥺 I hope to see your review of the book some day. I think it is perfect.

I bought Camille recently, don't know when I'll read it. Read and liked Quicksand and will soon be reading Passing. Want The Artful Dickens!!!

The Artful Dickens sounds wonderful!
I absolutely loved One Hundred Years of Solitude. The family tree in the book was very useful to keep track of all the characters. I love the way it uses magical realism. I hope you enjoy it too as well as the rest of these books! 😊

Good memory of the reading of "La dame aux camélias" whom inspired the brilliant Verdi's opera "la Traviata", enjoy et bonne journée ;)

I loved La Dame aux Camelias, possibly because I love La Traviata so much, but I hope you love it, too. Thank you, as well, for telling me about The Artful Dickens. I’ve just ordered it, as I couldn’t wait for its US release in the spring.

Hope you enjoy 100 years of Solitude! I read it so long ago that I barely remember it. The Artful Dickens sounds really good!

Le Pere Goriot (Old Man Goriot), was one of the first books I read in French (and the only book of Balzac's I have read), I found it a struggle but that maybe more because of my struggles with the language than the plot of the story, I'll be interested to see what you make of it. If you have a fish phobia don't read "Where the Crawdads Sing" I'm reading it at the moment and there is lots of fishing and crustaceans in the tale.

Balzac is maybe my second favourite french author. I hope you'll enjoy his book(s) as well! 😊 "The little stranger" is one of my highlights from 2020. I flew through the pages eveb though it usually takes me forever to read adult books in English 😂

a phobia of fish sounds like the premise of a great book. I do recall you love the book Big Fish, or was it the movie? I also have Death by Shakespeare on my tbr and I'm so excited to hear back from you about all these books. You will have a fun reading year!

If you’re looking for a Hemingway book I enjoyed (as a non-Hemingway fan!): I recommend trying A Moveable Feast! It was great & I really enjoyed it.

I wish I was a Dickens fan only so I could be excited about the John Mullan book, the Jane Austen one is everything

I'm a little worried about the Hemingway selection. It's not one of his strongest, and it's probably better understood within the wider context of his works. If you do want to give Hemingway a real go, I would recommend starting with The Sun Also Rises. Just a little worried this one might turn you off of him, especially if you already didn't like The Old Man in the Sea. But, who knows! Nice haul.

I have to agree I don't read synopses of classics and more so go from people's opinions and such because they spoil things too much! I have heard of Quicksand and it's one I want to read as well after loving Passing. One day I will read one hundred years of solitude. I've struggled with all of the Hemingway short stories I've read so I've been toying with whether or not to try one of his longer works or not. I really need to get to queenie soon! Love Shakespeare! I will have to look into death by shakespeare. Hope you enjoy reading all of these x
