Why Buick replaced Subaru as my favourite rough-road crossover | Driving.ca

For years, I’ve been telling readers and viewers that Subaru makes some of my favourite vehicles for tackling the rough and crumbling back roads of Northern Ontario.

Specifically, that’s because in sixteen years and over a million kilometres of testing cars for Canadian TV, web and print outlets from Sudbury, Ontario, Subaru is the brand that I’m most consistently reporting strong ride quality and ride comfort scores from. That's whether we're talking about the Impreza, the Ascent or more recently, the Crosstrek I showed you last fall.

But speaking of the competition, I think you need to drive the new Buick Envision, too. Here's why.

Great review
I have to say I really like the new envision
It looks shape I am sure the engine is adequate I would prefer a old school v6 but I fear those days are gone
Thanks for the review

… and your review was with the Avenir trim. With the 20” wheels. Try it with the Essence with the 18” wheels. It’s like driving in a cloud with more rubber.

It doesn't have a CVT but instead a traditional slush box automatic which is a good thing .

Power? Engines available? AWD? Ground clearance? How's Buick's World Rallye going?

Softest ride I've been in at this price point. I'm so sick of driving cars that claim to be "luxury cars, " but the ride is like I just jumped into my old 2001 Mustang V6. Not doing that again. My Chrysler 300C with AWD from 2008 had a nice ride, too. Finally, a car that isn't made for Zoomers.

I need a bit more meat and potato’s than just it’s ride quality to convince me it’s a better vehicle than the new Crosstrek Outdoor. What type of all wheel drive system does it have, any x-mode? We change our cars every two or three years and so far Subaru’s really hold their value.
I’m not sure I like the styling it’s too much like the BMW X3…

I stop buying from the big three back in the early eighties, and have never looked back.

This new Envision is so far ahead of the previous model, it’s not funny. The problem is (for me), it is built in China, not in North America. I think it is time we tried to limit our trade with China, and for that reason, I simply won’t be buying this vehicle. It’s a shame. I’ve loved, and owned, Buicks since my first car, handed down from my mom. This latest Envision would be great for me. Come on GM, start building it in North America.

Interior wise, Buick got cheaper in certain areas than previous envisions. Sure, it has a “Cadillac” like aspect (XT4) and looks great on the outside, but they could’ve done so much better. Subaru is far safer, cheaper, and better for off-road.

What a joke. Buick??? Junk. Subaru will last a few decades longer than the Buick.
