It would be great to see before and after pictures of some clients with narration!

Even if we can't measure the amount of DHT at the level of the scalp, finasteride is still taken orally and changes the amount of DHT present systemically. Androgenic activity is important to support certain bodily functions, so if we lower the amount of androgenic hormones systemically, wouldn't it make sense to measure their levels beforehand? Wouldn't this be especially important to ensure that a potential candidate isn't already at low levels of androgens?

I think that you'd be foolish to start a therapy that affects such an important hormone and not have a baseline. If measuring systemic markers is the best we can do, doctors should do that. I paid out of pocket to get comprehensive testing done in order to check my testerone, free testerone, DHT and free DHT etc. It was expensive, but this is your health. Without checking, you don't even know if you're a good candidate for FINASTERIDE and these doctors are just gambling with your health. In any other profession that would be negligence. In order to know where you're going, you have to know where you started. Your levels could already be low and taking FINASTERIDE would drive them into the ground and like the good doctor mentioned in this vid. We need DHT. I'm not a medical doctor, I don't even play one on TV.

You said something very important in this episode: "DHT is very important for all of us." So, what exactly is it important for? As far as I know, it only serves a function in the womb and during puberty.

I wish that the doctor could simply just state what DHT is and what role it plays in the body other than exacerbating hair loss through thinning in the hair cycle etc so we can do a cost benefit analysis of whether I not we should take finasteride or not. Why can they simply not just say this? And why is it so difficult to find this information?

Good advice Dr. Jayaprakash. Androgen action in tissues like hair follicles would be paramount and the best way to properly track the efficacy of Fin would be measuring the DHT concentration in the hair follicles. I was also thinking about doing a DHT test prior to starting with my oral Fin treatment back then but after doing my research I realized it wouldn´t be very useful since the DHT action while in the bloodstream is close to 0. Most of its androgenic effects are being expressed in target tissues. Also, the DHT test was pretty expensive. Thanks for the vid, and stay safe...

Thank you for continuing with the videos Dr. J. We really appreciate it.

Do you plan on making a video about scalp massages and it's efficacy in hair growth?

Thats a good point sir. But theoretically, what level of DHT is considered high for shrinking hair follicle? And what it should be ideally, so that it doesn’t affect other bodily functions of DHT. Waiting for your reply. Thank you.

Thanks and Godspeed.

What is DHT important for in adulthood?

so let me get this straight... we don't know the levels of finasteride in the different compartments of the body according to this video... so then how do we know what compartments the finasteride is targetting - there is no way to objectively measure either the DHT or the effect of the finasteride? Furthermore hasn't it been proven that finasteride only targets 1 type of 5AR enzyme whereas dutasteride targets both forms of 5AR enzyme including that in the scalp. Most top clinics are now recognising there are side effects to both drugs and that is why even Hasson & Wong have come out with a new topical forumaltion applied directly only to the scalp... also why most top european surgeons are also either using or prescribing topical dutasteride in a very small dosage applied to the scalp... the company that manufactured finasteride is called "Merck" -- they were sued in the USA multiple times because of serious side effects that were not disclosed and they basically paid out a lot of hush money to keep people quiet... until they no longer could... at which point the USA federal court ordered Merck to release confidential documents that Merck tried to hide which proved that they knew about the drugs side effects but hid it from the public... these big pharma companies are criminals... any drug you take carries risks... especially those that interefer with your hormones... just look at the PFS website online... over 17K people have listed adverse reactions and australias own TGA lists serious adverse reactions people have suffered... not to mention some international regulators have classed it as toxic... this show might be all nice and great but the reality is when I went in to see Russel he wasn't nearly as nice as these videos show them to be... they suggest conservative treatments such as a laser cap and meds... which to be fair is good because any doctor that wants to rush you into a procedure well thats not a good sign, a dr that turns you away is actually a good sign... I don't know enough about their results but some of them in my view lack density.. and they don't provide regular public posts showing their work like all the top european drs do in the international forums...

Very superfical answer, relatively speaking dht will be affected by any 5ar inhibitor

This is the reason why medicine advances very slowly, as doctors are not trained to analyze nor think. Had any doctor on the planet performed a comprensive hormonal bloodwork before prescribing Finasteride, by looking at the results for those people who later develop side effects, I am sure that we would probably know if there was some common element, and we would probably be able to set some bio markers to decide if Finasteride is ok or not for an individual. Also the micro dosing these doctors apply is based on pure trial and error without checking bloodwork and establishing a priori which dose is appropriate. Given this scenario, with no analyses, and pure trial and error technique, why should ever go to these doctors. They are essentially justifying self medication, as they do not offer anything than any person with common sense would know already.

I just wanted to thank you guys for all of this great, free info. I found your channel back in January when I was really weary of using finasteride because of all of the negative side effects I heard. You two broke down exactly how finasteride works in a way that I've never heard from ANYONE else, and it really reassured me that the drug was safe. Even better to know that 1mg/3x per week was sufficient - less chance of side effects and more friendly on my wallet. I've been using minoxidil 1x per day and finasteride 3x per week since January, so I'm just now approaching the 3 month mark and, honestly, I can see a noticeable difference in the thickness of my frontal hairline. I cannot thank you enough for this information. Without you guys, I would have never begun taking either medication. Thanks so much.

I think the real question here is how important is DHT in our bodies, and should we be blocking it? I hear DHT is responsible for muscle size and strength, as well as blocking Estrogen. Anyone who has better insight on this please feel free to comment.

If only the level of DHT at the scalp is relevant then why do you guys prefer fin in tablet form over topical fin ?

If we don't have a "good" way of measuring DHT at the hair follicle level... how do they do it for all those scientific studies where they say how much that level has been reduced? Is their method not reliable... so we should ignore those studies? Or it is a good method but is very expensive to do for everyone who ever gets on fin?
