What makes Alec Baldwin involuntary manslaughter charge unique

It's not as straightforward as everyone wants it to be. I've read the movie set rules for the film. Only the armorer and the assistant director could handle the guns on the set prior to them being handed to an actor. Baldwin could not open the gun on the set - that was prohibited. For Baldwin to have the gun checked, he would have had to request the armorer open the gun and show him the status of the gun. When the gun was brought to the set, it was announced, "Cold gun on the set" prior to the gun being handed to Baldwin. He is not responsible for loading the gun, the operational status of the gun, or stating "cold gun on the set." However, he is responsible for aiming the gun in the direction he did and pulling the trigger. It certainly will take court proceedings to find out his level of responsibility within the chain of events.

I was under the impression that no real guns are on any set. The rub for me is that he was holding it when it fired itself so to speak. Why no one is talking about who put the gun in his hand knowing it was a REAL GUN!!! come on people

Actors are handed prop weapons dozens of times per day in films like these. It is the responsibility of the weapons expert to make sure that there are no live rounds in those weapons. Maybe Baldwin should be charged with negligence, but involuntary manslaughter? That is on Gutierrez-Reed. She should be locked up for ages for being so cavalier and reckless with weapons like these. We can’t say that we reasonably expect every single actor on every single movie to check every single gun every single time it is put in their hands on every single day. It is the job of the weapons expert on set to make sure that they are safe to use as props. That is literally what these people are paid to do. Free Baldwin, punish Gutierrez-Reed.
