Should YOU BUY The RODE PSA1?

This is NOT a sponsored video, just a reflection of the product and the company.
So what sets the RODE PSA1 apart from the rest of the value options in boom arms?
Well...the first big one is price...
But for that price, you get one heck of a product.
While it is still not overwhelmingly expensive...it is the perfect middle of the road option, between your MIKA/OC WHITE and the lower tier options like Neewer.
But there is one thing RODE really does excel at...

I am a Rode fan. I had a faulty mic and they arranged, via their Sydney office, for the repair under the ten year warranty. Quick and efficient. Really excellent customer service. Thanks for the review.

Just bought a Rode NT1kit for my office video conference room. I liked so much I bought a second one for home use. That company is making the best audio products.

Thanks for this review, especially the exceptional customer service Rode provided to you. I support companies that focus on customer service. I was trying to make a decision between Rode PSA 1 boom arm and Blue Compass, and I just purchased the PSA 1 based on this review.

I just found this video and am so happy to hear you had such a pleasant experience with customer support. After having so much trouble with Blue's customer servive and their compass boom arm I decided to return the mic when their advice failed and their product broke. Thanks for the review,

Hi, Aiden, I have a bit of an oddball request. I'm trying to repair a second-hand Rode PSA1 which I bought broken on Kijiji*.

The key to the fix is a little plastic plunger that lives in the forward tube of the arm below the elbow. This plunger transfers (a huge amount of) force from the contained compression spring to a little metal finger seated in the elbow hinge. The plunger and the lever are both partially visible through a slit in the tube.

In my unit (which I've now disassembled) the plunger has shattered and so far I've been unsuccessful in printing new ones, but if I had a short, *really sharp, detailed, steady and up-close video of the elbow opening and closing (as seen through the aforementioned slit in the lower arm, just inside the elbow) I would gain a better sense of the mechanics and could probably print a workable piece to salvage this unit (and save CAD$260; I kid you not. That's the price on Amazon.ca today!).

I would be thrilled if you could make and post such a video, and I would also completely understand if you hadn't the time or energy to do so.

Thanks for the video, and thanks for reading my comment all the way through!

* I didn't know it was broken until I got it home. Thankfully the seller returned my money and I was left with the broken unit.

I have a usage question for you that you might need to test out to have an answer for me, if you would be so kind? I will be clamp mounting a boom arm (let's say the PSA1) on the back left corner of a 25" deep desk against a wall corner. For VO work, I plan on standing most of the time to record. With an upright cardioid mic, similar to the one you're using in this video, will it sit comfortably in front of my mouth with that reach (I'm 5'8"), or do I need an even longer boom arm?

Does this stand move at all? And how well would it hold the MV7? (Will be my first mic (MV7) and boom (this one) that I will have ever purchased

i bought the canon m50 creators kit that came with the rode mic go, and it had a known problem working with the m50 and other devices and when i called rode i was told there was nothing they could do because it was a bundle deal. and the retailer told me it was up to rode to handle, so i was stuck with a busted mic and no one wanted to do anything about it, what made me upset the most was that the guy who sold it to me gave me such a hard time about trying to return it i just sold it online instead. while im glad you had a great experience i think perhaps your youtube status might have played a part in that. or i just had a unlucky situation. hard to know

Im new to all of this, but have been greatly considering rode for mic and boom. Heil is in the running also....at least mic. I think rodes boom arm is better than heil. Mic Ive not decided, but my use is for HAM radio, so heil mics are tough to beat. Although the podmic is a great price for the mic

Hi! I’m planning to get the rode psa1 but I’m not too sure if it’s strong enough. Can this hold the rode nt2a and it’s shock mount? Would really appreciate your help! :)
