For this video I used the Rode Wireless Pros in exactly the same way i'd normally use the DJI Wireless mic system for a few shoots and it highlighted some quirks (which is why i made this video). if anyone knows fixes to anything i mentioned pop em below for all to see.

finally someone addressed the Lapel mics with that oddball front capsule

I’ll take the usability of my DJI system over 32 bit float. It’s just a pleasure to use, which counts for a lot.

Everyone is just talking about the features but the main thing is audio quality. Nobody is showing practical tests after clipping it on collar and showing audio quality in different conditions. Anyways man you are doing a great video.

Caution: Connecting RODE w pro set to dji osmo action 4 via usb-c to usb-c cable results in about 50% of the videos not having sound after the first 1-20 seconds of the video.
Compatibility issues are apparent.

Good review Chris, I’ve always been a big fan. Just bought the Rode system and I love it! What you perceive as ‘quirks’ however I see as strengths. I HATE when the receivers and transmitters all come on automatically when you take them out. It’s a feature for ‘dummies’ so you don’t forget to record. Ok but I am a TV Producer with experience so to SAVE BATTERIES as it usually takes a half-hour or so once the talent arrives and I mic them up ready NOW TO RECORD, ( I do a test meanwhile to ascertain that my receiver is getting a signal at the camera). Once we’re ready to roll, I power-up the transmitters and record directly to them as a 32 bit float backup. I then record in camera with all the audio synched! 32 bit is my backup if needed… Remember saving the batteries is a big issue if you shoot all day as you only have 7 hours max on one charge. This method is more efficient and will last a useable real-time 7 hrs instead of always being ON as this video suggests. So for me it’s not a ‘’quirk’ but a professional feature designed for efficiency and Chris yes l, in my usage, it is more flexible. Love your stuff man!! 🎬📸😎

Looking buy and studying Youtubers as I work to start my channel. Your mysterious montage (first 18 seconds) is really well done. And you use the stuff. I am so sick of demos of people are are not boots on the ground.

The new Rode system is a no brainer for weddings imo.

Great & detailed post mate! Can we connect the receiver to a mirrorless so we get the sound directly into the camera...? thanks!

Dji already has mic 2 with 32 bit float but they only sell the mic with pocket bundle which is stupid. It’s been out for 4 months now but still no mic 2 for sale on its own

Wow! Thank you for this video. I actually use those features of the DJI and wouldn’t want to go without them. Thanks again.

It feels a bit like a tennis match between DJI and Rode for these mic kits.

I wonder when we will see the DJI Mic 2.

I've been using them for a week. MAJOR ISSUE!! Which has made me want to return them. The clip for the lav mic falls off and so do the windshields. Another huge issue is that if you have a walking talent that you are following around, the lav will fall out of the holder of the clip very easily.. at that point you have a mic on the ground or shuffling inside their shirt. One of the holders plastic broke super easily that hodls the lav into place. Which completely ruins the point of these things. They need a more stable connection for all of their stuff. It's a real bummer because the audio quality was awesome.

I think it's very important that the recording can be stopped and started from the receiver and that there's a hold lock on the transmitters. For me, these are major flaws which will stop me buying the Rode units. The problem with the lav mics is also a major issue. 32 bit is fine, but it doesn't trump these flaws.

The DJI system is far better by operation. But you can connect to your phone and can't you stop recording from there? Haven't tested it yet.

I could not agree more. rode need to put a 3 seconds delay on the record button so the talent cant turn it off by accident just like the Tascam DL10.

Man, those front direct mics don't make sense. Ill be using these specifically for concealing. What's the advantage of pointing them away from the users mouth? I don't get it..

The no stop lock when you've got the Rode's set to manual recording is frustrating. I use them 99% for internal recording for weddings and I have to take the transmitter out, turn off the recording, then turn back on the recording when I'm ready to mic up whoever it is. They're also still pretty bulky compared to DJIs if you just wanna use the magnet. I do love most other things about them though, super high quality, but if DJI put 32 bit float and a screw lock for the lavs for DJI Mic 2, I'll probably swap them out!
