The Fujifilm X100VI Alternative No One Considers

preview_player
Показать описание
The Fujifilm X100VI is an amazing camera, BUT it's fairly expensive and very hard to get hold of at the moment. This Panasonic Lumix GX9, on the other hand, is almost half the price, has a bunch of similar features and can be found in abundance on the used market. So, is this the cheaper Fujifilm X100VI alternative you've been searching for?

I own a GX9 since 3 years now. It was my first "serious camera". Considering its affordable cost, quite wide lens adaptability and satisfying image quality, it is a pleasure to get out twice a week and shoot in the streets. At first I didn't really know, but it was really all I needed as a beginner.

I had a GX85. Was great. The GX9 is probably better. But given the fact that the 85 was already great... I have no doubts.

I bought a brand new one with the 12-32 mm "classic" lense for 556 euros just 2 years ago !
Prices became crazy !!!
This "against" video is a little hard, i guess the Fuji and the gx9 don't play in the same division....
But the gx9 still take good pictures in 2024. It's a light weight and small camera. You can put it in your pocket, it's great for streephotography.

I'm an Olympus user and I bought a E-PL 10 Pen and am amazed by its performance. I have a dozen m4/3 mount lenses.

I own the combo GX80/85 plus 20mm f1.7 lens. It's even smaller than the GX9. Bought it (camera and lens combined) for € 300, -. Does everything a X100 can do.

Would definitely be nice if Panasonic made an updated version with the G9II's sensor, autofocusing and stabilizer.

Had the GX9 and the Leica 15/f1, 7 which is a great combi. Sold it because of old technology (Micro-USB) and the oldschool Panasonic App.

I have it and I love it. 100pc recommend it. And you can swap lenses.

Very useful review thank you. I do wish you would characterize the large print capability of 20 mpx cameras more truthfully. I’ve been shooting with OM1 for a year. I came from the XT5 because OM is better at macro and wildlife. I was concerned about printing which I do a few times a month. My largest to date has been a 24 x 20 and I have not as yet reached the limit of ‘oh that doesn’t work’. All roads lead to ‘using good technique’.

I use 16 and 20 Meg Pix, often not enough, my sweet spot is 40 to 60 meg Pix. I know no one want to hear that but a portrate with a little crop on the 16 and 20 MP leave the eyes very soft, no sparkle and up close looking on A3+ from 70cm eyes are clearly not defined

The moment lumix adds real time luts to this line and their other point and shoots, it’s over for Fuji, at least for the professional photographer scene. Everyday people it’s still a little confusing on how to add luts.

I WISH Panasonic made an interchangeable zoom lens 14-42mm F1.7. Also an update with USB-C will be nice. The only reason Fuji X100VI has 40MP is because it doesn't have a zoom lens so the idea is, even if you crop (or digital zoom) to half the size of the sensor, you will still get a decent image. Not having to carry a heavy lens is a massive advantage when travelling. I am not sure how the bokeh is going to be with the digital zoom on Fuji X100VI, as you can't alter the focal distance (hence the amount of sharp area vs fuzzy area).

An Olympus omd em5 will do the trick just as good, I'd say even better and much cheaper too.

I used to have this camera with a nice zoom lens. The video is fine, but as you know, the photos aren't better than a cell phone.

“All the specs and the features to go toe-to-toe” with the Fuji? So it has a leaf shutter? It doesn’t? 🤔

for me you're comparing apples to oranges... gx9 lack of manual control, ovf, film simulations etc. not a bad camera but not the same user experience imo. panasonic lx100 would be a better alternative (and cheaper too)

I can’t believe my brain is totally OK spending 1000 extra $ just for a few film simulations…
