During my years as a Trad there were so many things I was willing to overlook (or believed myself) in what was wrong with the movement but the hostility towards science and evolution in particular in my FSSP parish and with the priests I listened on this site is what finally made me realize there was something horribly wrong with the environment I was in, my parish was full of converts from Protestantism so I can’t help but think many of them took the creationism with them when they crossed the Tiber.

I recently listened to one of the exvangelical channels I follow in which they talked about how susceptible Evangelicals are to conspiracy thinking I think it’s the same for many Trads, in this regard and in many others they have more in common with the Protestants they hate than with most American Catholics and this was one of the greatest ironies in my journey. Also I’m a bit weary around Kolbe (just like I am with Fatima) and I guess Trads love for him is the main reason why.

Commenting again to help this engage the algorithm. I got to thinking about how wide the term "Traditional Catholic" really is. In my experience, the only YECs that I've really met are people online or those that spend all their time online. They're in the community, but no one really takes them seriously. It sounds like that stands in stark contrast to your experience though.

I've always said that you'll never find the "good trads" online. Though, in this context, that's more of a self-indictment than anything.

I've looked into the Kolbe Center. I bought an amazing book on the Papacy but that somehow got me on Robert Sungenis' mailing list. A lot of those guys are also geocentrists. So while they're technically not heretics, they have basically no credibility (in my estimation).

I don't think the data disproves genetic entropy, it just shows that lifespans have increased because modern medicine and proper hygiene slow the effects of genetic entropy.

Do we know how young earth creationism first really got into these Catholic circles? I remember my parents going to a talk in the 90s by some intelligent design pundi, and they came home with a book about it. A few pages in I'm like...I'm learning about evolution at a Catholic school right now, the Pope (JPII) accepts evolutionary theory, so why would a Catholic Church host this speaker, who obviously is a crank?
