How do Trees Transport Water from Roots to Leaves

We all know that without #water, #trees dry up. #Leaves turn brown and then fall off. In extreme cases, a tree may die. Why is that? What really happens when there is not enough water for a tree to use?
Water enters a tree through #fibrous, #absorbing #roots. From there, the water moves through tube -like structures that make up the tree’s water conducting system. These tubes run up the tree and out to every last branch and twig, into the leaves. Leaves have tiny openings in them, which regulate water loss into the #air as water #vapor. This water loss is known as #transpiration.
Trees do not merely draw up water just to release it again. It plays a major role in #biological
functions such as #photosynthesis, the process through which a tree produces #sugar for #energy.
#Minerals in the #soil dissolve in water and are absorbed and used by the tree for complex
processes. The loss of water vapor through the leaves helps to cool the leaves and the air
surrounding them. Water aids in transport of substances within a tree, as well.
