Water enters the roots, goes into the xylem and gets pulled up to the leaves under negative pressure.

Basically, trees absorb water with their leaves during the night when there is moist fog. Unfortunately, biologists have not discovered this yet. They don't pump water up the trunk.

Does the cutting of the tree's bark all around the tree stop to flow of water to the top of the tree? I have trees where the lawn cutters have cut the bark all around the base of the tree with string trimmers and the tree is dying. Can this be the cause. Where are zylums which transport the water located in the tree? In the bark? Or further inside the tree?
