I’m sure it will be a resounding success as long as my mains are in the starting roster.

I think the most difficult thing for a MOBA to achieve is gathering and retaining new players. If Smite 2 can nail the introduction and provide fun casual experience it will be set up for success. Ideally they appease the casuals and provide good incentives to play more competitive in the long run.

New player retention will rely on one thing; a good tutorial
I only got into Smite because I'm ridiculously stubborn

I think the hardest thing for the devs is going to be giving new players, less experienced players, and casual players some fun way to enjoy smite without having to read essays of items or learn all 100 different buffs and debuffs.

Personally I think if SMITE 2 doesnt do well, SMITE 1 might die as a result.

When smite 2 releases — arena/slash need to be available for the new players whereas conquest should be the LAST thing a player can play. I feel that conquest and arena being the only two modes you’re limited too doesn’t really help a player to want to stay. That’s what frustrated me when I first started.

I just hope they aren't overworking devs and spreading their resources to thin. 24 cross gen skins, 11 legacy skin ports, Zeus tier 5, porting a god every 2 weeks during beta I think, and still updating smite 1.

I feel like new players would be enticed to download due to marketing and stuff. It’s gonna be more casual with the new shop rework. Its gonna do fine. Im excited for it!

Smite should capitalize on league adding vangaurd into their game. Really rub it in that they dont have malware tied to their game so players should switch to smite.

Conquest players need to suck it up and realize that Arena is as important as conquest. Not in terms of skill but it terms of fun. I got my friend into smite a long time ago and he only played arena. Its fast and easy to learn and you don't have to worry about anything but the points. They need that arena player base as well

I genuinely believe that with the hype and the waves through the moba scene they've already created for Smite 2 will definitely help it succeed. They would have to MAJORLY mess up for it to fail imo. I know there's a decent chunk of League and Dota players already talking about moving over at launch.

I used to be a casual smite player, made it to the last level before ranked and stopped. I play Dota now but when smite 2 comes out I am going to play

my 2 main concerns for their success are:

-) how easy is it for new players to get into it? one of smite's biggest issues is how hard it is to convince new people to play and keep playing til they get it down. they need to make sure they have proper tutorials and build up

-) accessibility. i think i recall it being said itll only be available for PC (which is fine) and ps5. i hope thats not true, cause thats cutting off a big portion of their players on ps4. i don't want to have to buy a whole new console just to play.

I also hope Smite 2 is more new player friendly

I'm a relatively new Smite player and have about 120 hours clocked on steam. I really do enjoy Smite 1, but it's just so outdated. Smite 2 looks great, and will only get better once the devs get used to UE5 and all its capabilities. I'm excited and can't wait to see more!

I hope it will succeed but Hi-Rez has a tendency to release a game, build a good hype around it and then fucking it up quickly with some update so that the game end up on life support the next year like realm royale or rogue company. I have a bit more hope with Smite 2 since they managed to keep Smite afloat for more than a decade. It's true the moba genre didn't get any big revolution in over a decade and the big moba start to show their age so a "new generation" moba could work and attract new players. So I'm cautiously optimistic. I think the biggest challenge for Smite 2 will be to have a good new player experience since moba are infamously know to be really hard to get into since there is a lot of thing to learn and a lot of those thing aren't explained in the game, most people don't look at external source since they want to play for fun and don't want to spend 3 hours watching youtube video and reading guide before playing add to that the bunch of very toxic players that will shit on you at the first occasion and it's understandable why moba have trouble keeping new players.

3:25 this chart surprised me, the genre as a whole has declined, yes, but SMITE has been nearly steady by comparison.

In this way, Smite has been effectively GAINING "market share"

I think one of smite 2 biggest boosts will be having been made in UE5

Smite feels old
LOL feels old
Dota feels old

Smite 2 will be the first MOBA on a 100% fresh build.
And I feel like it’s going to make other mobas that are old feel old.
We have no reference now to a new moba with a history.

I feel like that’s one of its largest upsides it has going for it.

Honestly, Hirez should implement a game mode for players new to smite all together. Since your smite accounts will be linked, this game mode can look at your smite 1 account and if there’s less than 50 hours on it, you can play this gamemode up to account level 20 (or the smite 2 equivalent). This way new players don’t get farmed by returners with 4k hours

All the jungle camp thing is really confusing for new players. I think this needs either a good tutorial or a rework for it to be successful
