The ADHD Test (Quick Identification of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Important: Everybody kind of does these things, only if you do these considerably more than others however, should you assign that criteria to yourself.
In this video I hope to help people with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) quickly test ADHD by themselves, without having to go to a therapist. To do this I've listed 14 criteria, as published by the APA (American Psychology Association), which are known to be affiliated with ADHD. If you you've identified 8 or more of those 14 criteria to fit to you, then you most likely have ADHD.
The test critera are as follows:
1. You have trouble sitting still
2. You're quickly distracted by different things that are stimulating
3. You experience difficulty when having to concentrate on tasks or games that don't interest you, for a longer period of time
4. You quickly switch from one activity to another, leaving the other unfinished
5. You can't keep internally still
6. In group constellations, you can't wait until its your turn
7. You often know the answer to a question before a person has finished asking it
8. You have trouble fulfilling tasks
9. You experience difficulty when having to play calmly
10. You often don't think things through before you do the, which got you the reputation of being a risk-taker
11. You often loose things that you need in order to do homework, complete assignment..or get home
12. You often disrupt others
13. You talk a lot
14. You often don't seem to be listening when other people are talking

Think of these criteria as sort of like an ADHD/ADD Quiz that you can take by yourself.

I started to clean my room and then I suddenly decided I wanted to watch this video. I’m now sitting on my bed watching this video but not really watching it because I’m distracted by writing this comment and reading all the other comments, and there’s a bag half full of garbage sitting on the floor.

For all my fellow adhd’ers with no patience for 8 minutes:
1. Cannot sit still, always moving or fidgeting
2. Easily distracted, focus shifts often or can’t be controlled
3. focusing on something you have no interest in is nearly impossible and very exhausting
4. switching tasks/ focus/ interest very often and fast
5. internal restlessness, you cannot relax easily. You have racing thoughts or you just feel physically and mentally over-energized (hyperactivity)
6. You cannot wait, you are impatient, queues are horrible, other people are annoyingly slow
7. you finish other peoples sentences often bc you’re impatient
8. You have trouble completing tasks, no stamina even tho you were very motivated in the beginning
9. You’re usually not very calm, you’re easily tempered and can get very emotional (it can be also very hard to control your emotions)
10. You’re not thinking decisions through, you act impulsive (e.g. interrupting, buying a lot of things, binge eating) (he said bank rubbing and murder but that wouldn’t be my first thought tbh)
11. You often loose and forget a lot of things (bad working memory)
12. You disrupt others (bc you can’t wait and easily forget things)
13. You talk a lot (your brain jumps from one point to another very fast, fast flow of thoughts)
14. Staying focused on attentive listening is hard, therefore you can seem like you’re not listening

For me there’s also:
- It’s hard to structure things, to organize and plan
-sometimes extrem mood swings (overly happy then depressed)
- procrastinating a lot bc of lacking motivation (house chores are very annoying)
- easily overwhelmed and resigning bc of too much input or
- extremely bored without any (to the point of boredom-depression)
- sometimes my brain is paralyzed and can’t process information (bc of overwhelm usually with negative emotions such as depression and/or anxiety)
-ping pong thoughts, I get lost in thoughts, chaotic thinking
-low self worth bc of negative experiences (e.g. in school, with peers, maybe you got teased a lot)
- comorbide depression, anxiety, eating disorder, etc …. -> Can be overlooked bc of this
-you can’t filter information (what is important? What is a priority?)
- you just feel different, bc your brain processes information differently
- big changes and new situations make the symptoms a lot worse (like moving out, divorce, entering work-life / uni …)
-being hungry and tired makes the symptoms also very visible and prominent / worse
-black and white thinking/ all or nothing/ perfectionist/ never reaching your own high standards and goals bc you get overwhelmed by too much information to process and work with

But don’t forget the positive: you’re also creative, generous, loving, unique, open minded (etc.) and overall a wonderful person despite of all the struggles <3 don’t give up
I hope this helped somebody …
If anyone has anything to add or other experiences, feel free to comment.

I was unofficially diagnosed by a therapist when I was 40, but this is the first time I realized how many boxes I check. All 14. It makes me a bit sad that I’ve felt so weird, a bit broken and often so tired of myself, my entire life. There was an actual reason for it and I could have received support. I’m glad awareness is more widespread now!

The fact that I've just zooned out in the beginning and started doing everything else..

When I was in college, I hyper focused on this one assignment. I did it so well. I had my fill of dopamine. Then I was too tired to actually submit it.

The fact that 2 minutes in I jumped over to the comments and saw a comment that resumed stuff and read like 6 sentences then watched another video then jumped back into this video says a lot

I got diagnosed with adhd last month. Before getting diagnosed, I always dazed off when listening to long conversations. I even watched every single video on youtube at 2x speed, because they felt so slow. I stopped doing things I thought were ‘good enough’ (although they weren’t quite finished) and most importantly I multitasked everything (I solved a rubiks cube while watching a movie cos my hands were bored). I am so glad i got diagnosed, because now I can finally understand why I’m a bit different from others and try different methods that might work for my when doing my tasks and everyday chores.

my ADHD went undiagnosed for decades because the intelligence I was also born with did a great job helping me to mask what I used to call my idiosyncrasies.

Hard thing is years of experience of “not finishing a project” get you unmotivated to start anything.... it’s been hard.

I feel like I get too annoyed at my friend when she won’t listen to me or talks over me and says the same things over and over again with excitement but it’s just ADHD and I need to show more compassion. thank you for helping me realize that.

I was diagnosed with ADHD since my teenage, spent my whole life fighting ADHD. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
