Intermolecular Forces and Boiling Points

Why do different liquids boil at different temperatures? It has to do with how strongly the molecules interact with each other through intermolecular forces. Find out all the different ways, and how to use them to make predictions about matter!

Guys, listen! In this video, I state that Van der Waals forces and London Dispersion forces are interchangeable, that's actually incorrect! Dispersion forces are momentary dipole-induced dipole interactions, the weakest, whereas Van der Waals interactions are an umbrella term that includes dispersion forces as well as any other interactions involving dipoles, just not interactions involving formal charges. Sorry, my fault!

I wish I found you when I was in high school. I'm a medical student now reviewing my chemistry to strengthen my knowledge of biochemistry and man are you great at teaching!
Some concepts were not that clear before, yet you explain them so clearly.
I've had so many eureka moments 😂
Thank you so very much!

Hi Professor Dave.
As a ninth grader, it's very hard for me to find what happens at a molecular levels- be it for such chemical bonding or even physical phenomena such as refraction. This is because frankly people don't care and make the effort to understand; or because some explanations are too complex and beyond my level. Hence, I'd like to sincerely thank you for uploading these helpful videos. Without all the glam and hype, you explain concepts in such an easy to understand manner. In fact, I'm really surprised that not many people know you. Whenever I search for a concept in YouTube, I make sure to specify your channel! Thanks once again!

Professor Dave, I do believe you just saved all of my AP Chemistry students.

I swear just ten minutes listening to you is just somehow much more helpful than two 45-lmin lectures combined, just to demonstrate a SINGLE POINT. Thanks a lot, professor!

Most underrated Channel on youtube!
Thank you Dave, you got me through college (I am a verbal and visual learner), I am doing analytical chemistry now, working on HPLC-MS analysis of oil samples in the Arctic environment.

Hai Prof Dave, Im a teacher/ lecturer in chemistry and currently doing my chemistry education masters as well. Thank you so much or your videos. We use ur videos to understand concepts much easier also it helps me in teaching school level students too. Mainly because u touch the fundamentals which even most of the chemistry teachers does not explains. So thank you for helping me to improve my knowledge in chem as well as to be a good teacher in chem. God bless you....

Bro Mr. Professor here is saving so many generations. I see past comments of him saving students, he just saved me. Who reading in the future has perhaps just gotten saved even if it's not this specific video. We appreciate you so much

I love listening to your videos while driving. I spend 2 hours commuting between home and school everyday, so studying while driving is a good way to save time. Your lessons are so detail and clear that I can understand without looking at the videos. (Unlike Crash Course, too fast and overwhelming) Thank you!
