To quote Lando Calrissian: “This Deal Is Getting Worse All the Time.”
Before I retired, I was doing the security patching for 50000+ workstations every month. Microsoft's patches were a bloody nightmare. We tested them out in our lab environment because you couldn't trust MS to not screw something up every month. It was unusual for them not to break something critical in our production environment. MS quality control makes absolutely sure that no quality whatsoever escapes into the world; they treat it like a biolab quarantine.

It's been turned on for Windows 10 on my machine. I'm not acting as a beta tester for Microsoft. It's not my fault they they gutted their QA.

Another good reason not to downgrade to windows 11.

I have Win 10 Pro 64-bit on my computers. I have that particular setting, "Get the latest updates as soon as they are available" turned off, and it's been off since I installed Win 10. Even though my computers (supposedly) can run Win 11, I have the forced update to it blocked in the Local Group Policy, so nothing past Win 10 Pro 22H2 can be installed.

In all of my 30+ years in IT, I've NEVER rushed to get the latest version, I've always waited until it had been out a while. Example: I didn't make the switch from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro until Service Pack 4 was available and proven to not have any major bugs. I started way back with MS-DOS 4.01, then to MS-DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, NT 4 Workstation, Win 2000, Win XP Pro SP-4, and Win 10 Pro on my own machines, though I've had to work with PCs and laptops running MS-DOS 1.0 to Win 95, Win 98, Win 98 SE, Vista, Win Me, Win 7, and Win 8, and servers running Win NT Server, Win 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, 2008, and up to present.

I have just checked my Windows 10 and it was turned on, so I've turned it off. Thanks Chris. 👍👍

I've had over a dozen crashes on Windows 11 since upgrading my laptop, and i haven't had a blue screen in around 2 years on my much older Windows 10 device, so it seems like Windows 11 is very unstable, and i had to repair my drive after a recent crash.

Thank you for the info. I am happy to report that my Windows 10 laptop had both settings disabled.

Windows updates also like to go in and turn on settings that you have previously disabled. Go in and block that stuff from the firewall as well.

I think this is an issue mainly with optional updates that are best left uninstalled. Those are the ones that tend to be buggy. I've always had this setting turned off in order to avoid those early adopter issues with those specific updates. I think it is a good practice to do that.

Reminder for the submissive people out there that you can lie to windows "active hours" and set the whole day as active. Its perfecly legal and ok

So, end of life service update stoppage is a good thing ? 🤔
I'm happy with Win 10 and NOT looking forward to a forced update to Win 11 😬

I've worked on a lot of machines and I've never seen this get turned on either by default or automatically as part of an update. I've only seen it get turned in intentionally or after being asked when manually installing a preview update.

Makes me glad my only Windows is in a VM, and all I use it for is to login to work. I always keep a full disk file copy, and normal snapshots. Cheers!

I've had my PC with windows 11 three months, and currently am in a BSOD block. I can't restart and uninstall windows 11, I can't access restore points, and worstly, I can't even boot in safe mode. Current error code is "critical process died." Started as "hypervisor error" then "kmode exception not handled" then "driver irql not less or equal."

Heheh...
Been running on Win7 since XP was abandoned. Never downgraded to 8x/10/11, and have no intentions of doing so. Within a year, I'll have my own network up and running and will only use a Linux box for Internet. At that time, my network will have everything I need to keep things alive and still be quite productive. Plus, I have 3 machines each with multiple OSs on them, more or less maxed out (removable media, RAID arrays, software suites, etc). But the OS collections began at DOS 3.3/Win2.11 and stopped at Win7. Not going any higher. After Win7 the level of spyware became unbearable. And now, "Oh, look! Spying is now a FEATURE! YAY!" I'm not a fan of Linux, but for internet browsing, it should be fine. I'll keep my valuables offline from now on, thankyouverymuch. heh

Windows feature updates only make the product worse.
As soon as I can guarantee that I don't need some Windows software for work, Linux will be my ONLY OS.
