"God Save the Queen" was the national anthem of the United Kingdom and one of the most recognised tunes in the world. Elizabeth II ascended to the throne on the 6th of February 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. She was crowned on June 2, 1953, in Westminster Abbey in London.

She was our symbol of the country's unity and continuity. "God Save the Queen" was played on so many occasions, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, the opening of Parliament, sporting events, always as something to proudly love.

Our Queen now lies in the afterlife with her family since the 8th of September , 2022. God bless the Queen, may she find peace and happiness.

This is the arrangement by Sir Edward Elgar who also wrote "Land of hope and glory".

I am a great admirer of Elgar but this is not my favourite arrangement and is never used at state occasions. It sets the infrequently performed middle verse and has the twiddly bits in the tune (rare in the UK nowadays) at the end of verses 1 & 3.

The most frequently performed version at royal weddings, coronations, jubilees where the royal family are in attendance is the one by Gordon Jacob, the original version of which was written specially for the Queen's coronation in 1953 when it was sung as she left the Abbey in the procession. This has only two verses.

The Queen's favourite was Benjamin Britten's version which also sets only two verses.

How nice to hear the second verse being sung unashamedly. I was born in Coronation Year and have seen all three verses printed in older hymn books, but have never heard verse 2 sung before. There was always some excuse given along the lines of, "Out of date", "No empire any more", "offensive to other nations" etc. when us kids questioned it. This must have been the start of the era of 'Political Correctness' even if no one realised it yet.

It may be at least three generations before this song is sung again as the national anthem of the United Kingdom.
