"God Save the Queen" (alternatively "God Save the King) is the royal anthem of Canada, while "O Canada" is the national anthem of Canada. The royal anthem originated as a patriotic song in London in 1745 but neither the author nor the composer is known. It is also the national anthem of the United Kingdom, and the royal anthem of the 15 other Commonwealth realms. In addition, it served as Canada's de facto national anthem until 1967, when it became the royal anthem. In this video, we can also see the third verse sometimes sung in Canada.

As an aboriginal Canadian this makes me proud of my grandfathers who served King and country, my cousins who currently serve Queen and country and my uncles who are aboriginal police officers sworn under the crown. God bless this Dominion and our Commonwealth.

I love the “and let our Empire be loyal, United, free” verse. I love that in the past Canadians saw the Empire as something they were an important part of and partner to it rather than something “happening” to them. It’s awesome to view it that way Canadians should be proud of the Empire they helped to build and defend with their lives and continue its founding purpose of loyalty as juxtaposition towards the United States.

the queen has died

as a brit she's been a constant of my life, a devout public servant and a woman I have had an immense respect for. she has been faithful to our nation and the good lord. I know this tribute will likely mean very little in the grand scheme of things but I had to make it.

I’m used to hearing God save the queen but this version is spectacular, Canada you are amazing. There is a lot of pride and love coming from this and I definitely feel it here in Wales. God Save The Queen!
