Why These Two Planets SHOULD Be the Same

You'd think that two planets with similar stats, orbits, and parent stars would grow up to be pretty similar, but these twins have atmospheres that beg to differ.

Wait, a gas giant _without_ clouds???
I'd never even considered that could be a thing!

love the little laugh when giving the astronomers' definition of metal.

WASP-67b and HAT-P-38b are hardly "orbiting different stars on opposite ends of the galaxy" as the two stars are, respectively, about 620 and 249 light-years from the Sun. In galactic terms, they're basically close neighbours!

Our own solar system has its own examples of "twin planets that are mysteriously different." Must famously Earth and Venus, though Uranus and Neptune also come to mind.

I remember clearly when the very first exoplanets were discovered. Now we can study their atmospheres!

Does anyone else also think deep faking your ancestors into talking to you is kind of creepy?

The assumption that similar things SHOULD be identical is flawed.

The ad copy monologue at the end had me cracking up imagining Hank being REALLY proud and overestimating the abilities of his genetics and family history 😂

I'm not sure what I'm more fascinated
WHAT we find in this Universe
or THAT we can find it, at all!
We can know the weather on a planet Hundres, Thouands, Millions, even Billions of Light YEARS away....!
I can't tell you how Grateful I am to be Alive these days....OMG, my inner-scientist has been having a blAst! :D
Thank you Hank & John & the whole SciShow crew for helping me See what we Find :D

"To an astronomer, any element past Helium on the periodic table is a 'metal'"... but to a chemist, Hydrogen is a metal. :D

One is a flying insect and the other is a piece of apparel how could they be any more different?

All the compliments to whoever wrote the Romeo and Juliet parody as the opening 🤣

I see absolutely no reason why two planets in different solar systems - even if they are in identical orbits - would be expected to be anything alike. It is like comparing a freshwater plant with a salt water plant. Yeah they are both plants, but the environments that they formed in are not identical.

I would guess that the stars age could have a significant impact on the availability of elements to form planets.

This tale of 2 planets should be a Shakespearean love story

Being able to make that kind of Shakespearian verse about this kind of topic is a mix of sciences and humanities that should not be possible.
