The front diff on my 325xi self destructed. No real reason could be found. Had good fluid, etc; diagnosis was gear failure or a pin came loose. Luckily the damage was self contained but cost me $1, 600 to repair and the mechanic was a joke, had to sort out his efups for months.

Food for thought. As far as I can tell E46 is the most popular of all of the BMWs. Buying an E46 would help views and likes on the channel.

I've been passing on quite a few good deals myself. They're crazy cheap in my area. I'm still looking for another E39 for parts, but I want it for $300 or less. I know I will find one.

I would buy it. I buy junk cars, sell the parts, and scrap them when the price is good enough. I just bought and '01 325xi for $300. First Bmw I've done. Hoping to do well with it, but I think I will.

Hi Nathan I recently bought an e91 318i here in the UK, its a clean car with 120, 000 miles thing is when I hit 50mph on highway the car inside the cabin vibrates its hard to tell where its coming from the steering wheel doesn't shake its weird, it's like driving over rumble strips.
You seem quite educated on beemers so any imput would be gratefully appreciated,

Used car prices seem to be edging up and it seems to even be effecting the “fixer’ upper” car market around me, which seems odd because I was under the impression that scrape values are down? From what I am seeing, the cars that I could have bought for $3-400 just 2-3 years ago are listing for $800-1000 now (may not be selling for that, but they are asking). I agree, if you have to pay too much for the car, plus the parts you know you need, then plus the part that you thought you wouldn’t need, your up to or beyond the value of the car in good condition. It probably turns out cheaper to haggle down the price of a “none project car”, do a few more basic service repairs, and start driving than it is to get involved in all that work and spend the same money. As far as cars for resale, you might need to make a friend in the used car business that can get you into some auctions. There has to be a ton of broken BMW trade ins going through those sales that the used car lots don’t want to get tied up in trying to get them fixed and are no sales or going for cheap money? I am seeing alot of non wrecked late 90s to mid 2000s BMWs turning up at the “you pull it” junkyards around me. I know these guys are getting them at the sale (they still have them markings on the window) and I know they are not paying much for them.

500 because you did the work, 500 because the car is gonna be seen all over the channel and everybody's gonna want it for that reason!

Here in the UK we see more 2l diesel E46 and they remap to an easy 200 bhp - with 6 speed manual its a great combination.
I particularly like the 2 door + opening rear hatch version (Compact) - always wondered if they have the same rear subframe problems, I guess they must. I have owned one past 260k miles and another past 150k without problems however.
