Today I'm sharing a list of 24 that I'm not buying in 2024, and I'd love to hear what kinds of things are on YOUR no-buy list for 2024, so please make sure to share them with me in the comments. This is one of my favorite minimalist habits at the end of the year because brainstorming a list of things I'm not buying as a minimalist or to save money is a great mindfulness exercise to reset your life and finances in 2024. I know I always like hearing what other people stop spending money on when they do a low buy or no buy, so here's mine -- hope you enjoy it!

And if one of your goals is to declutter your home and simplify your life in 2024, make sure to sign up for the waitlist for my decluttering course down below! 👇

ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.

Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones — and $25,000 of debt — to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and — best of all — wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.

As a 5th grade teacher, I absolutely applaud your decision to not give your kids cell phones. I've been teaching for 29 years, and I have definitely seen an increase in disregulated behaviors in my students. The research you quoted is spot on!

Hi, you are right about Europeans beeing more sustainable. We don't have really good things in the thrift stores because we use our things for a long time and/or we re-sell on ebay or pass it on to family and friends.
Love your video!

When we find cool things at the thrift store, my friend and I take pictures and send them to each other. This helps a lot to avoid wanting to buy everything cool we see. It seems once we've shared the finds and have pictures, the need to bring everything home isn't so compelling.

Loving the channel. Wanted to share about water. I noticed you mentioned you usually feel hungry but never thirsty. Our bodies can make us feel "hungry" when we're dehydrated. Sometimes we can't tell the difference. I find it's good to drink some water when feeling hungry bc many times water/hydration is all we need, especially if it's not time for our usual meal time.

I recently heard another youtuber mention how we have used phones AS our hobbies and that really struck a chord with me.... so when do I want to give my children smartphones? Maybe never! I want to break my addiction and hobby use of my own and go back to a simpler time!

Just switch to decaf coffee. I love it. Mayorga from Costco. Organic. Fair trade. Cheap.

Yes all these soft pillows and mattresses just suck the energy out of you.the first time I slept on the floor on a futon, l couldn’t believe how energized I was after sleeping on something ferm.

I agree with others yay for you for putting your foot down about cell phones. And… I have a gray sofa and chairs. They are in great condition and very versatile. I do change pillow colors to add warmth. I have a few inserts and then I just buy the covers. They take up no room at all.

We'll start full-time travel in 2024, so our goal is to downsize to the point that our essentials (and nothing else) fit into the back of our car. We're bringing the dog on our epic road trip, so her needs are adding greatly to the amount of stuff we'll have.

Re: pets, i agree. I love our dog and she's family, but if I had it to do over, we wouldn't have gotten a dog and our lives would be very different.

A friend who moved to Toronto from Berlin remarked that she gained 15 pounds after she moved to Canada and said she didn't change her eating pattern. Perhaps it's because of the lower quality food in North America.

Apart from a few things that we really need, a few clothing replacements, a small solar power system for blackouts, a new bed and linens, we're planning on a spending fast for at least the first half of 2024.

We have chickens 😂😅

Long comment incoming:
I am already in a very small space of 734 sq feet as a family of 5. I totally want a house (that is NOT tiny) of my own with more kitchen space and a bathtub and land enough to grow my own veggies (I was growing my own veggies at my parents' house for a few years but they took it apart during COVID which really saddened me).
My oldest brother has chickens and he loves having them so much.
I don't like having extra storage stuff. I don't have Christmas decorations and don't think you do either...
I started doing the end of the year decluttering and deep cleaning (Osouji), as I've done for several years
We only bought a scale a couple years ago and I don't like it. My husband likes to check his weight every morning but I don't know. . I don't like having a scale.
I am not a gray hair fan. My hair is very long and I have a few grays/silvers and my husband loves them, but I don't. I haven't dyed my hair since March of 2013.
I haven't used rubber bands in . . .since the 90s.
One day, I do want a dog. We have no pets currently.
I bought flip phones for my sons when I needed a job and had to stop homeschooling them a couple years ago. My oldest was 14 years old but the other one didn't get a phone until this year at 14. We just gave a smart phone to our 16 year old who will be 17 soon. I like it better for him because there are app locks on it. Everything on there is locked (internet is locked) but he has access to apps like his bank app (he has a job) and a couple other apps that are sensible and music. He does NOT go on his phone hardly ever. We are thinking of getting a smart phone for our second son who is about to turn 15 in a couple weeks. We'll do the same thing of locking it up. The flip phones were impossible to shut off internet and we did so much to try to but it didn't work. I do not like that. Smart phones are actually better for that. Anyway, that's my two cents on that.
Thrift stores in my area are the worst. They used to be good in the 90s. I used to get cool vintage 60s and 70s dresses and now everything is just blah. I tried getting maternity stuff there last year and came home empty handed. I hope they are better by you. They closed the best one we had in the area.
I also am an audio book or digital book person. I go to the library for physical books. I bought a couple books for my birthday and will donate them to the library.
You can use candles if they are soy or beeswax. It is the paraffin and weird chemical ones to stay away from. I'm a candle fan. They are the only thing I buy outside of needs.
Good for you cutting coffee out! I do not like the smell or taste! Cocoa lover for life.
Not sure what I will or won't buy. I won't buy much other than needs. I know my husband needs his eyes checked and teeth worked on, so that's the plan. My middle child will need an eye check up. This is how my head thinks: Things that are a must vs. things that are not necessary at all.

My 13yr has a good old flip phone. All its needed for is for me to call her when needed. She even uses an mp3😂

Your weight might be because the quality of food in US is not as nutrient dense, and even if you are eating the same quantity as you did over seas, it’s not the same nutritional quality. A carrot here is not the same as a carrot there. Your best option is low carb.

It may not seem like it, but your boys will be grown and in college in the blink of an eye, so don't scale up too much!! And if you get a pet, kids will be grown and you are stuck with their pets in addition to all of their stuff!

I wish I'd never given my daughter a smart phone - I think it contributed to her eating disorders and other self harm issues.

Im letting my grey hair show now too. I’m 46. Why the heck do we, women, feel like we need to cover up all signs of aging. We should be proud and grateful for our beautiful bodies.
