Towards the end of 2023, I made a list of 24 things I would not buy in 2024. A lot of it was fueled by the fact that we had so many duplicates of these items already and the thought of bringing yet one more just seemed absurd. Socks, candles, makeup, more than two streaming subscriptions of any kind were several of the things on my list. I'm keeping a journal of my "fails" as well, so far I've only had one what I'd call fail, so I'm not mad. I have to keep reminding myself that I literally need nothing at the moment.

With so many "buy now, pay later" options, I know a lot of people who buy beyond their means, including myself I am afraid to admit - your tips are exactly what I need to hear, thanks!!

It’s amazing how much we can cut our consumption without really affecting our standard of living. Like, I did not know coffee table books or needing to rotate home decor (aside from holiday decor) were a thing before I started watching frugal living videos where people say they’re giving that up.

Wow that sounds like me, I quit social media as well. And I did some internal reflection and I was impulse buying because I was bored so I’ve been going on a walk almost daily and it’s been helping.

I put my husband and I on only two Starbucks a week. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. We order one Triente iced coffee with no ice o, cream or sweetener. We take our own creamer and cups of ice and share the single triente. This has been a huge savings plus it is a date for us and our dog gets to go along which he loves.
I also only buy used clothes except underwear. No home decor, no candles until I am totally out, and I only read books from the library. I’m really thrifty.

You need only two fancy dresses: black one for evenings and funerals, and a light color for weddings or fancy brunches.
Get a solid color, classic fit with a great cut that flatters your figure. That’s all you need!

Clutter-buster tip: "one in, two out." It will reduce unnecessary spending.

Thinking of quitting social media. I think makeup use to be a thing… now one face cream, mascara, lipstick and a blush. In my purse so always with me. No more stuff. Have reduced my inventory of stuff like crazy, clothes, kitchen gadgets, utensils, junk drawers, decorations etc. . I do have a salon so social media is kind of essential for that but even so I’m seriously thinking about it.

I have a room full of expensive art supply, yarn, floss, quilting material, gemstones, fabric dyes, and more; pristine not out of box. I fancy myself an artist and creator for years so I bought and bought. This year I decide to use my stash. I want to break out watercolor paint, cut into exquisite fabric, string beads, and using embroider hoops and floss.

By the way I also have a bedroom full of clothes shoes handbags and jewelry, too; many never used. I am not buying any of these items this year either.

Since I got pregnant I haven't highlighted my hair. Im going to be home for 3 months so really no need to get my hair done then either. also I probably just need some cotton shorts and tank tops to wear around the house this summer, that's it. I haven't bought a candle in forever since I don't burn mine much bc my husband complains about the smell. we have a rental that's not our style so really no need to buy any more home decor since it's not gonna look good in this house anyway. I'm going to be using lily and fox nail strips instead of going to the salon. I've only been to Starbucks twice this year and was shocked by how much the price went up. And not buying any extra makeup if I haven't used up what Im already using

I’m loving this topic! I’m on a no-buy until May (which should be easy since I’ve done no-buys for 1-3 years at a time!) The only social media I use is YouTube but one has to be careful here too! 😅

We always make coffee at home but the boba prices are insane… for a while my husband and I were treating ourselves to boba left and right but we cut down and it has helped so much… health and for our wallet. 😅

So true about the social media part. When I open instagram, always feeling I need this, I need that. Which basically just another stuff I dun often use/ or even dun need it. And those stuff are normally FREE sent to the celebrities from the brands for posting them. So I will use less instagram. Thanks for your useful tips!

These are great points! Especially the paying off debt part, I think that's so important.

I have 4 boys and when they were babies I would buy their clothes from goodwill but only the items that were on sale for half off. And I would sell the items they outgrew to pay for their new clothes ( well new to them). Also it is great if people that give you baby clothes at your baby shower, they get you items in different sizes so then you will have some of every size. My mother in law would always get my boys clothes at thrift stores and yard sales and they were all different sizes and for different seasons. Also one of my husband's cousins past down a bunch of baby clothes and some other stuff that her baby outgrew since she had her baby so many months before I had one of my kids.
