Another good fire starter that can be made from common household items is Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly and Cottonballs. Coat the cotton balls with Vaseline and pack in a small container. I use an old 35mm film container. To use just pull it apart to spread-out the fibers. A few sparks from your ferro rod and you have a flame. If you have enough Vaseline on it you can get a 3-5 min flame. It doubles as a first aid item. Can be used on your lips for chapped lips or coat bandage as not to stick to wound.

Could fill a small altoids tin with it and just dip a stick in it and smear it on a few bits of kindling, doesnt seem to need much so if just camping for a couple of nights it would be plenty.
