Pilots Zoya Agarwal and Rajalakshmi Eshwar debunk 11 myths about flying. They talk about why cabin air doesn't make you sick, the effects of flying on your body, and why you shouldn't worry about turbulence. They also debunk the myth that autopilot flies the plane for them. In fact, they give all the commands for it and monitor it regularly.

Eshwar is a first officer for Air India, flying the Boeing 777 aircraft. She's been with the airline for the past 13 years.

It’s not the cabin air that’s toxic… it’s some of the people on those planes that are toxic.

Fun fact: planes and the information they gather, help us to predict weather patterns and give weather forecasts. Since covid and the lack of flights started our forecasts haven't been able to be as accurate.

For the jet-lag, if you change your schedule to the timezone you are going to a couple of days before (if you can) that will greatly reduce your jet-lag once you arrive

This is very helpful I hate flying and I get very anxious, but I know it’s safer than ever it’s reassuring when pilots tell you thank you for making this awesome video.

Great video! I hate turbulence and it's the one thing that puts me off flying! Not because I'm afraid we will crash, I just hate being thrown around and not knowing which direction or for how long!

I have a friend and he never experiences jetlag at all, he is a rather special sort of guy he can just fall asleep whenever he wants and wakes up with the alarm clock pretty refreshed.

He can just fall asleep on command and sleep for however long he wants to, meaning that if he wakes up he can just fall asleep again almost instantly even if he has slept for 8 hours it doesnt matter. He can have been up and active for 6 hours and just fall asleep again in almost an instant.

I'm definitely a nervous flyer and it was starting to affect my life (actively refusing trips etc), watching stuffs like these explained really helps address some of my concerns, so thank you!

The perfect vision "myth" comes from the requirements of the military pilots. I think now the US accepts lasik but some countries don't because your eyes are still susceptible to get injured (scar opens) or bad vision can come back.

Yes drink water throughout a flight being dehydrated and with a plane descending pretty bad headache.

I hate turbulences not because I'm afraid that it will bring the plane down, I just hate the general feeling of not being able to predict/anticipate that sensation of being dropped suddenly.

If I'm traveling by land/sea, I can kind of see that there's a bump on the road, a slope/hill, or the surface of the sea but in a plane I can't see shit and it makes me brace myself for a turbulence all throughout the entire flight.

It's tiring as hell and it makes my stomach hurts.

One thing I found from my one long flight experience: so we flew from LA at around 1:00 AM local time, and I was determined to stay up until it was a decent time to sleep at the destination timezone. I managed it, and passed out almost instantly
Although I didn't sleep well on the plane because it was 13 hours and we were in economy, trying to transition to the timezone the day of seemed to help. I did go to bed early on arrival day at 6 PM of the destination timezone, but I was far from dead during the day the whole time we were there. The total timezone transition was from Mountain Daylight Time to the Australian Eastern Standard Time.
Coming back, our flight was at around 6 AM AEST, and because it was day and I had previously adjusted to AEST, I hardly slept at all during the flight (just dozed here and there) and was awake for pretty much 24 hours straight before we got home and I got to sleep. I was dead during the day for about a month. So bottom line? Try and adjust to your destination timezone a day or so before you get there

Accidents by cars happen every day. And I’ve seen more this year in small town which is honestly odd. I’m scared to drive every time I go out.

The vision question is different based on what you’re flying. The vision requirements for military fighter pilots are much more strict.

The main reason why I can't take an airplane to see my family is my anxiety and fear of flying. The last time I went to see them was in 2014... I feel so sad and bad at the same time, but the way both pilots talked about those myths, made me laugh =) thanks for the video!

How often are the filters changed, I know the cleaning of a plan in change round is awful and never to a high standard. But also if someone on the plane is I’ll with something that is easily transferred in the air, your likely to catch it as your all in a confined space.

I just realized I’ve never seen female pilots before. This is nice.
