My favorite turbulence story is about the woman sitting next to a priest. It was a bumpy flight and she finally asked, "Father, can't you do something about this rough air." He replied, "I'm sorry but I'm in sales, not management."

I get nervous when I hear from the flight deck “fight attendants take your seats” in the middle of meal service!

I don’t get nervous flying, but once, mere weeks after my daughter had been born, I took off (was taken off) from Arizona in very heavy rain. The pilot came out to the gate, and face-to-face, told us all what to expect, what the plan was, and whether or not we needed to be worried. I am still so grateful for that humble act of kindness.

I was flying to Australia and we hit turbulence I never knew existed outside of certain death scenarios. The flight attendants clipped their drink carts, sat on the ground, hugged them, and then looked at each other and started talking about their days. One looked annoyed to have to wait for the hand of god to stop and the other one looked like he might take a nap. That scene was what kept me from stroking out of fear.

If we're inverted, I'll probably know there is a problem before the pilot screams "Oh no! We're inverted!" 😂

As a nervous flyer, I love to see a pilot in the seats. I do exactly what you said: I watch him/her. I do also watch the FAs. I’ve never seen one of the pros look nervous. For me, that’s a calming fact.

"Unless I'm screaming, you have nothing to worry about". I nearly spit out my coffee laughing. I'm going to steal that line from you next time I fly and I'm sitting with a nervous passenger. Great explanation of turbulence and enjoyed the video.

I’m a terrible flier but I’d happily pay more if I was guaranteed a seat next to a deadheading pilot! 😅

I love flying! I never had a time in a airplane when I thought I was at serious risk. What scares the hell out of me is being on the road with people who are on their phones, do not have insurance, and just don't used common sense.

1-. Encounter turbulences and start to feel nervious
2-. Remember this video and expect to hear the engines toning down and so can relax
3-. The pilots decides to change to a higher altitude to avoid area of turbulence
4-. The engines goes louder
5-. You need new pants

I used to be okay with flying, but ever since I flew to canada, I’ve been a nervous flyer. That flight was the first time I experienced real turbulence and it terrified me. Now that I hear a pilots perspective on turbulence, I feel a lot better. Thank you!

Thanks for this!!! Turbulence is my biggest issue with flying. I am CERTAIN that the wings will just shear right off if the bump is too big. Knowledge was the cure for me, I watched tons of videos of Boeing test flights and when you see a 737 Max (prior to recent days) executing near-acrobatic maneuvers, you quickly realize that planes are BUILT very well.

Kelsey, there is a reason why it is called irrational fear of flying. Most people know these statistics and they still dream their plane will crash every evening for one week before their flight (yes, that was me).... What helped me was watching all the episodes of Mayday and other similar air crush investigations; and of course, I had to decide if I want to keep my job or not. Not agreeing to fly would have meant on a long term that I cannot properly do my job. I am by no means a happy flyer, but now I can go on short flights (4 hours is a stretch, but still ok). Luckily I do need longer flights.

I love turbulence. Also the power of the engines on take off, brilliant.

Kelsey, thank you! This is valuable information for every passenger and every would-be passenger. A smile to a scared passenger goes a long way when all they see is scared faces around them.

I have watched other videos by other pilots and I like yours the best because you seem so humble and I adore that. Although I am not a would-be pilot I fly about six or seven times a year for leisure and watching your videos more and more make me enjoy flying even more so, thank you so much for your humility and your cut-to-the case kind of style, I have hit the red rectangular box and I will see you again and again, thank you for your education and I have told my friends about you.

Excellent job, I've been a Pilot and it fascinated me when as a passenger I would hear people worried about what is going on around them your videos should be playing on the video screen as passengers are being seated. Would settle a lot of nervous people. Thank you, you are a true Ambassador to the industry.

nothing better than to hear it from a pilot himself.

@74 Gear
I appreciate all of your videos so much, but as a (recovering) extremely nervous flyer, I find this video particularly helpful :) I have spent a lot of time learning how to trust the pilots on my flights and settle in, knowing that the planes are designed for turbulence, the pilots are trained for it and not scared by it, and the probabilities are in my favor. But hearing you talk about it objectively (and with much empathy and care) really helps. I hope you know how much you’re helping people with this video. I also hope you know how friggin awesome your content is, in general. Keep the blue side up, my dude 👍🏼
