The Rum Distillery (with the Dunder Still) is the most OP industrial building in Tropico 6. In it's normal work mode, it generates more profit per uneducated worker than any other industry. Only the Pharmaceutical Company using High School educated workers and making Powerful Placebos in the Modern Era makes a slightly better profit per worker. But that also emits more pollution and requires Electricity. You do need Sugar and that often means having relatively high cost, low profit and space consuming Plantations. Although I often use Trade Routes and Pirate Cove raids (Coconuts/Sugar/Wool) to reduce that need.

If you need (or just want) a secondary industry, the Lumber Mill (in Hasty Debarking mode) is actually a pretty good choice. It's profit per worker is well above average for any era, and while you'll probably need to use low profit Logging Camps to supply it, they cost half as much as Plantations, require fewer workers and don't take up as much space. They also don't degrade the soil, which can happen with Plantations. There are other industries that create greater profit per worker (particularly in later Eras), but the above average profits, low startup costs, low pollution and low worker requirements usually make this a decent choice regardless of the Era you're in.

The Tannery delivers poor profit per worker, even if you can supply them with enough Hides. Which is hard to do without using a Trade Route or raiding. You could make it more profitable in The More the Better mode, but that also increase upkeep significantly AND emits a lot of pollution. Overall, I feel that It's not really worth building this unless you have a mission for it.

I always thought that u had to export to a certain place to make money, but it looks like it sells it automatically 😅 no wounder I never made it past colonial

Personally, the planks are super op. With just 2-3 lumber mills, you can bring in 20-30k every time a freighter comes.

why does the fertility of my sugar plantations go down by like 90% there is literally NO pollution nearby ? i even have manure spreaders surrounding them. do i need to replace them or something? its a HUGE pain in the ass pls help
