First of all I was born in Chicago. I lived in Chicago for 48 years. I came to Texas for a visit with a friend of mine and we went to several cities. Out of all of them Houston was my favorite. That was in 2003. I haven't been back to Chicago since. I love this state. Chicago kept me locked in a neverending cycle of misery and depression. Houston brought me out . I learned things that I never even knew before and couldn't because of the constant violence and animosity that was prevalent.
I am a Texan now. It may not be what everyone wants, but it's the best state in the US for me
GOD BLESS TEXAS ❤

Texas has every kind of landscape. There is nothing more beautiful than driving into the hill country, coming over a hill and seeing a valley laid out before you. It is a shorter distance between El Paso and San Diego than between El Paso and Houston! And, yes, in a state that big, if you live away from the big cities you may have to drive a ways to get to the hospital, a mall, or maybe to a movie. That is what people who live in a rural area get in return for a quiet environment. Every town has a doctor, a general practitioner at least. 😊

Moved from AZ 3 years ago and i happy as hell, this state has giving me the affordability of owning a home. No state is perfect but Texas is better than most. And you dont have to emulate most people's lifestyles, be yourself.

I visited for 4 months. I'm from Colorado. I can say the biggest culture shock to me was the speed things move. In Colorado everyone is always busy, and you are expected to be on the ball and get more done than what is expected of you. In Texas everyone seemed more laid back, less stressed, and moves easy, so if you're moving their from a fast paced, 24 hour city, where you are milked for every dime of your time, expect the culture shock and frustration of having to be patient for things. It's a much nicer way to live and you will settle into the pace eventually.

The big cities are blue bubbles which are trash filled dumps, as long as you avoid them your good. If you want a beach, $100 flight to any.

I'm one of the Texans that got here as fast as I could. I was 19, I'm 63 now. I don't want to be anywhere else. But it sure isn't for everyone by any means. This fellow tells it like it is. Oh, he's right about open carry in Texas. Heck, I do. And a big firearm too. With lots of ammo. And We ain't gonna change for anyone down here!

Good video 85% true. Born and raised in the DFW area, but never in my life have I ever worn Western attire unless I was going to a party or event where that was the theme. Also, winters can get extremely cold here at the drop of a hat 🥶!

Don't forget Texas has hundreds of small rural towns with populations around 3000-5000 residents. Many of these towns are virtually crime free . God bless the great state of Texas.

Moved from Chicago to Houston 40 years ago. Never looked back. Better weather, better politics, better business climate, better food (other than pizza), better cost of living and friendlier people.

God blessed Texas.

I've lived in Dallas for 43 years. I went to college in West Texas which is very boring. I've lived in several suburbs but finally moved to a area that is the place in Dallas The Lake and Garden District around White Rock Lake. The neighborhoods of Lake Highlands, Little Forest Hills, and Lochwood. I love my area. Neighbors are nice, a lot of creeks, woods, and White Rock Lake Park and the Dallas Arboretum. I've lived in suburbs and they flat, treeless, and the traffic is horrible. Dallas and Collin counties at least we have good mass transit--Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). Before moving here do your homework. The San Antonio Express did a comparison between Texas and California. California was cheaper. The taxes are high, the grid is outdated and old power plants. During the Summer we had several grid emergencies where you had to conserve to keep the grid from failing. The Summers are brutal and the winters can be also cold and icy. If you're afraid of hail, which we get a lot of, do what I did and spend a little more and put a class 4 roof on your house which offers more protection from hail damage. All in all I live here because I love my neighborhood, Lochwood, like living in a small town.

OK, one thing I will say about the aggressive drivers: Most wouldn't be if there wasn't a fool going slow in the left lane. I'm from NJ originally and people didn't crawl along in the left lane. It's actually against the Law to go slow in the left lane, so move the F* over.

I am from NM. I spent most of my life in MN and hated it. I could never get my mom to NM. She died because of MN and no one is going to tell me otherwise. After she died I had to get out of MN.
After what I have seen NM turn into if I ever get the chance to move it will be around Corpus Christi. I lived there for a few months and fell in love with Corpus Christi.
I am 70 years old and don't think I will ever make it because of my health.

Lived in the north DFW area (Oak Point/Little Elm) back in 2007-2010, had to move back to where I currently am due to elder family health issues. Just moved my kid out to the Texas Hill Country area for their first adult job and they just love it out there. We'll be moving back to Texas when some final elder family health issues get sorted out. The only negative for me about Texas is dealing with the fire ants. Best piece of advice I got when moving out there the first time, is to be on a first name basis with a damn good exterminator. I had a great one and hope he's still in business when I get back out there.

I live in Texas and can confirm everything said here. The heat is terrible, the traffic sucks, the scenery leaves much to be desired and, while they don’t have an income tax, they tax the hell out of almost everything else. I live in hill country now because I couldn’t stand the dullness of the scenery everywhere else. It’s not much like the ozarks where I grew up but it’s okay. Otherwise, the people are great, the cost of living is low, there’s lots of decent jobs and there’s plenty to do for fun.

(Ps. I reused this comment before)
I moved from Chicago to Texas (Houston) and I was not impressed or blown away from anything there. It was not very interesting and I really enjoy areas that have much to do and is a little more modern. I like tall buildings, being close to stores, being in a vibrant area, and you probably know what I mean. I just didn’t enjoy the flatlands, crops, and just trees. I would enjoy nature but it was just very plain and rural with barely any greenery. It’s mostly a beige dead color that just feels very dry and bland which I’m not a fan of. But in Chicago, I’ve seen more natural greens and healthy nature even though it’s very busy, crowded, and not really a place that is dedicated to crops and making the outdoor environment much more pleasant and healthy. Texas is not very modernized as much as Chicago. In Chicago, even the most unreliable, unused, and no one really needed or cared about its purpose, it was built modernly with an amazing amount of effort. Not saying that Texas doesn’t put effort in to their businesses or places, it’s just that it’s very dull and tediously boring. It looks like a shed with a random wood piece and painted the sign. It’s not very attracting if you know what I mean. Ever since I moved to Texas, I’ve had stress, anxiety, and a VERY BIG depression. It was really an unpleasant experience for me mentally and emotionally. I still to this day feel all the regret, pain, sadness, etc on how much I wish I could turn back to Chicago and live my best life there. This is MY OPINION so please don’t hate on it. But if you enjoy Texas and is very against my opinion, that’s totally okay! Because it’s your life and I would like you to live it the way you want it to and love the things you love. I just love Chicago and I apologize if your antagonistic, inimical, or in disagreement towards this but this is just my personal preference and I hope I go back there soon!
