If you have blank data in your area chart, Excel will interpolate and plot the series as a zero value slope from your previous data point. NA() function and Show Empty Cells as Gaps is greyed out. In this video, you will learn how to over come these issues and create an Excel Area Chart with a cliff instead of a slope.

Thanks for the trick. How to make a cliff at front with stacked area chart? eg. 2014 and 2015 has data for the whole year (Jan-Dec), but 2016 don't have any data at the first quarter, but starting from April there is data until end of the year?

did you ever answer J Small's question? I am trying to create the same cliff, but at the beginning of my data. I just don't like how the first data series is right along the Axis and I'd like to shift it right
