Wrestling Takedown Explained for Beginners 🔤

Footwork is absolutely critical in wrestling, especially when looking to generate offensive takedowns. I often see the basics of the standard double leg penetration step missed/overlooked in the jiu jitsu space, and I wanted to break it down simply. When we first started wrestling as youth students, this is one of the first things we learned. Now, there’s a lot more to learn to make your shots more powerful and explosive. There’s also a lot of other variations of the double leg. But this is a great place to start when getting started as a beginner with wrestling offense!

I’d be a world champion if coaches would explain everything like I’m slow

Your content is my favourite lately. It’s just what bjj is lacking in my opinion, too many people are afraid to wrestle. Thanks for sharing what you do and please keep explaining like I’m a 5 year old

One thing I have learned from 30 years of teaching is always assume your student doesn't know anything even if they have tons of experience . Let their ego take the hit because you'd be surprised how far people get without knowing proper basics and WHY you do things a certain way . I was a second degree black belt when a guy came in and showed me I didn't have a clue what I was doing.I had to start all over . And likewise if you are a student. Check your ego, be quiet and act like it's day one. Because either way, you are going to fight with the basics when it comes down to it.. A double leg may be day one stuff, but it WORKS. And the better you do it and understand it the harder it is to stop

5 year olds don’t speak like this 😂 This is actually a great way to communicate while teaching beginners, it helps make understanding the technicalities of each step more understandable. You have to know WHY you do things a certain way
