My special needs daughter used to get picked up by the school bus at 6:20am. She already had TONs going against her learning capability and throwing lack of sleep due to an early pick up only set her up for failure. My poor girl 😢We homeschool now and she is SO much happier, less anxious and is learning so much!

At 9:30, I set all the lamps in my house to dim to about 10 percent. If I’m busy doing something, this lets me know to start wrapping things up. Then in my master bath and kitchen, I put mini salt lamp night lights that have switches, so I turn those on (can’t dim lights in those rooms). This has made such a huge difference in preparing my mind and body for going to bed at 10:30-11:00. Last summer I visited a friend and she kept the house lit up like a prison yard every night until midnight…it was very jarring to my system.

Andrew Huberman is one of the rare guys I listen to regularly, I applied a lot of his points (some years before I knew him) and they work, great podcast

This is a really informative video. Could you create one on how to recover the damage to your body caused by a really long period of intense chronic insomnia?

My dad is a sleeper! 8-9 hrs every day. My dad has a terrible diet, meat, and potatoes kinda guy. Only recently had he stared eating green vegetables or any for that matter. Never has had an exercise regime, smokes a pipe, and used to drink daily up until a couple of years ago. He doesn't stress over really anything and is 82yrs and in fairly good health and fully retired about a year ago.

I chalk it up to sleep and not stressing.

Thank you for this. I discovered Yoga Nidra and it worked miracles for me being able to fall asleep and stay asleep. I am training to become a certified YN teacher so that I can help others who struggle. I recommend Ally Boothroyd’s YouTube channel, she has a great variety of YN videos.

Linen sheets to regulate my body temperature (no more night sweats!), turning down the thermostat and window coverings that provide full darkness: low-tech approaches that have helped me get a good night’s sleep.

I’ve been lucid dreaming on a regular basis now ever since I knew how to do it. I normally say “I’m in…” the moment I’m about to fall sleep, then it is as if waking up in a different bed, in another reality. I lost my father 5 years ago, but I get to see him every other time I’m lucid dreaming it feels almost real since I can navigate my dreams easily. Or return to any dreams I wish on my next sleeping session.

The last part with Mathew Walker really hit
I've been struggling with waking at around 4am from pretty real and intense dreams (REM phase)
They're not nightmares but just emotional enough to wake me up, and then just lay there for the next two hours
in some sort of weird half sleep, where I'm some what awake, and finishing out the dream, consciously
as if I didn't like how it ended, or that it didn't get to finish. My heart rate is up, and mind is going a mile a minute
re creating my own resolution. It's starting to get pretty annoying 😆

Kinda cool I found this content creator. His style seems to have been recommended to me due to my bingeing Lex Fridman podcasts. Definitely need to do similar here. 🤔
