I finally switched to AM5 and it was PAINFULLY expensive. It's incredible but you'll have to save a lot of cash because you have to buy a new cpu, mobo, and ddr5 RAM. Stay with AM4 as long as you need to. Eventually every pc becomes obsolete, but this is about maximizing your value.

I've had a Ryzen 7 5800x3D for about a year now and i think i'll last me at least 3 more years. That CPU is a beast

Helped myself to an AM4 board in 2017. Started with an 1800X and will end it in about three to five years with the current 5700X3D (was too late to get a 5800X3D). Has been the best platform I owned since 1990. I hope AM6 will follow suit.

Let's be real, the upgrade is always the GPU, and by the time you have to replace the CPU, it's an entire upgrade of the entire setup.

Wrong wording, it's not dead, it's a dead end socket, it ends with Ryzen 5000. AMD supported socket AM4 for a whopping 4 generations and now 6 years with the upcoming 5000XT series CPU's.

Intel is notorious for doing this for just 1-2 generations, and sometimes within a single year.

Ok let's be real, IT'S NOT DEAD until the CPU can't handle modern games or can't be useful at all, so AM4 will last at least 10 years more.
