England: Who should Gareth Southgate bring to the Euros?

Gareth Southgate has just one more warm-up game before having to decide on his 26-man squad for this summer's European championship in Germany.

England beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-0 at St James' Park on Monday night, leaving Southgate and his coaches with just Friday's friendly against Iceland at Wembley before the difficult decisions have to be made.

Safegate should drop:
- Trafford
- Bowen (runs around to no end)
- Quansah
- Watkins (goes AWOL for England)
- Dunk (too shaky)
- Maddison/Macguire (possibly unfit)
- Shaw (unfit it seems)

I initially thought drop Wharton but could offer something in midfield.
Safegate however will most likely bench Trent. I think against a France, Italy, Germany, Spain or Portugal you'd want the experience of Trent over Wharton in the midfield and his delivery is arguably the best in the squad. That's what Trent can bring. Be difficult to park Trent on the bench.

Safegate will probably start: Bellingham-Rice-Mainoo/Trent. Upfront will be: Foden-Kane-Saka.

Trent will be a utility option for Bellingham. Gallagher a utility option for Rice. Wharton maybe a utility option for Mainoo. Palmer will be a utility option for Saka or Foden.

If Shaw, Stones and Macguire aren't fit I don't think there's any point in taking them. But Safegate for some reason left out Mitchell as a LB option and Tomori as a CB option. Dunk and Guehi are a bit shaky at the back and lack international experience.

Watkins doesn't deliver for England and goes AWOL. Toney a better option as he's a handful for those stubborn defenders. Eze is one for the future and there are many other attacking options. If Macguire and Stones are not fit though - no point taking both of them at least. Then drop one and keep Maddison.

I think Southgate needs to do a couple of things on Friday.
Firstly Toney gets a start, this will help finally settle the Toney/Watkins debate.
Secondly I think he should start Palmer on the right wing, if he performs well there and he can be clinical, then I think he should drop Bowen as that’s something he seems to have struggled with.
I personally don’t think Gordan has had enough time to prove himself for England at LW, and I think more investigation is needed on Friday also. If Grealish & Eze impress again and Gordon is injured, then Gordan can’t go.

I’d also like to see a midfield pairing of Wharton & Mainoo and see how they get on together defensively.
I don’t think Dunk should get any more game time Friday, personally I’ve seen enough to think he hasn’t been good enough, so someone else needs a go.

Maddison has gone, which is correct. The other 6 will be Trafford, Quansah, Dunk, Wharton, Jones and either Eze/Grealish.

Im fairly relaxed on the Eze/Grealish decision. Neither are gonna get near the team anyway.
