We keep talking about Iceland in 2016 being an 'all time low'. And okay, let's say it was. Do the media not realise that if it weren't for an OVERHEAD KICK in the 94th minute deep into injury time, this 'much better' team with a 'much better culture' would have gone out of Euro 2024 against SLOVAKIA?! At the exact same time as we lost to Iceland in the last 16! if not for Bellingham's moment of individual brilliance (which is also over-hyped), we were out. Gone. Bye bye. And that would have been well-deserved because despite all this amazing Southgate 'culture' Slovakia looked like they wanted it more than we did!

Southgate's England have NEVER beaten a team they shouldn't. I know football isn't played on paper, and I accept and respect the fact that you still have to do the job. But my God we were awful in this tournament. I mean, seriously bad. Barring 30 minutes against Serbia and 45 against the Dutch, we played Roy Hodgson level football. And back then we didn't have Foden, Bellingham, Rice, Mainoo. The list is endless. With the possible exception of an out of sorts Germany in 2021, Southagate's England have beaten no one of note since 2016. Literally, no one. And the moment we come up against half decent sides, we lose every single time. Croatia, Italy, France and Spain. He hasn't had to play the likes of Brazil, Germany and the Portugal we lost to under a previous 'golden generation'. And that's why Kane has so many goals, too. He's not better than Rooney. He's just bagging goals against San Marino and Slovenia.

Southgate should have left after failing to beat an OAP Italian side in the final on home soil after being 1-0 up in two minutes. That was levels of failure even the FA should have been ashamed of. But I guess £5 million a year is hard to turn down. That's why I respect this decision now because the FA wanted him to stay until America '26. Let's just hope someone can come in and build on his foundations...

Honestly my heart sank when I saw Graham Potter as odds on favourite.

Roy Hodgson redux here we come.

What about Lee Carsley? He just won the Euro’s with the U21 side. At least he’s got experience of international tournament football and been successful. He could bring through the best young talent. Worked for Spain. Worth looking at.

Lee Carsley is for me the one. I’ve watched his work with the under-21s and he’s a tactically savvy coach. A very clever guy, but he’s not a big enough name for the fans even though he has a lot of experience with premier league players. And he’s a winner.

What? The Falklands? WWII? Obstacles to appointing a football manager? Come off it and talk some sense!

out of all managers on shortlist to become england manager i'd go for pochettino because he's very good at getting best out of youngsters, like he did out of cole palmer for ex, and think he would deffo have more chance than southgate to take this team one step further

Serena Weigman wasn't English and delivered their only trophy.

We need someone with a proven record of winning major trophies - regardless of nationality. Tuchel is the man, surely? Ten major trophy wins under his belt. No current ties to any club (therefore no compensation to pay out) and can start immediately. He commands his technical area and gets the best out of his players. Southgate was just sat there praying for miracles.

Who should replace Gareth Southgate? Good question. I know the answer; ME. Ok, here's why - I know nothing about football, I am not interested in the religious hype surrounding tournaments, managers and players; not bothered about the money, just need enough to survive. BUT, one thing I would do is pick an England squad off the streets, the school sports fields, our yet to be heroes; and NOT ONE of them will have had anything to do with English league football. There, think I stand a chance? No, but I know something. My team would WIN

Current English coaches/managers are underwhelming. Klopp is unlikely to accept. Pochettino would be interesting but not sure if he's up to the job. Ancelotti would be good but not sure if he wants the job either. Guardiola would definitely be interesting but not sure if he wants the job or how many he would deem good enough for the English team! Dilemma for English FA for sure!

As long as England remains arrogant when it comes to football with its endless It's Coming Home, disrespecting and underestimating opponents you will never win regardless the manager..

Pick a ticket of one of the England fans at the final out of a hat - they would do a better job than Southgate.

Throwing beer at a man who is trying to make his country proud is extremely tacky and just about sums up your average English fan…

The incompetent fools at the fa will probably appoint lee carsley as interim , then potter or lampard which would be a DISASTER
GO ALL OUT FOR KLOPP
IF NOT TUCHEL, these are WINNERS

It's not you it's me, got each other's best interests are heart, it's just not working out, better we go our separate ways, before things get too out of hand, things were good for a while, but it was never really meant to be

I know you want me to stay
But it's best for the both of us if I go

This right here shows the problem with our media. First off, he talks about there being no job with more scrutiny than England manager while being one of the people that MAKE it the most scrutinised job in football. Then after that, and this is fucking awful, he comes out with how the first question at a Poch press conference would be a question about the falklands…he’s a fucking football coach not a politician, what kind of cretin would ask a question like that?! Our media is fucking awful and they don’t even have the self awareness to realise it
