Here are three articles that correlate excessive low back flexion to disc herniation and sciatica:

"Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Degeneration and Its Genetic Influences: A Review," by Livshits et al. (2011): This review of existing research on lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration found that flexion combined with axial loading is a leading cause of disc herniation..
"Occupational and personal factors associated with lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration: a review of the literature," by Videman et al. (2000): …. found that prolonged forward flexion and heavy lifting were both significant predictors of disc degeneration and herniation.
"Factors associated with the progression of lumbar disc degeneration: a systematic review," by Xia et al. (2017): …found that excessive lumbar flexion during activities such as sitting and lifting can accelerate the degenerative process and increase the risk of herniation and sciatica.

I was very lucky. Had 2 neurosurgeons tell me straight up…”I’d love to make money operating on you (surgery route), but at 31 you’re still too young. And most patients come back in 2 years with the same level of chronic pain. Let your body reabsorb the disc and heal naturally. Lose 50lbs. Eat right (avoid inflammation from processed foods). Get to your proper BMI and learn how to move properly!”

I’m so grateful to surgeons out there with a conscience. And folks like this offering programs/tips for people like me in recovery. It’s a long process. But I’m so glad I didn’t get surgery.

Stretch everyday, stretch your back out everyday and your legs and everything stretch everyday, and keep moving. A body in motion tends to stay in motion, this guy is exactly right and I love his enthusiasm and commitment!

For anyone with chronic pain, im sending you a prayer. No one but you can deal with it, silently suffer and try to function like you are ok. It feels hopeless most days that you wont get any relief. You are definately not alone

This is not the video we deserve, but the video we need.

Seriously though, this needs to get so many more eyes on it.

All I can say to anybody in chronic pain is knowledge is your friend. I’m 25, started having chronic pain at 9. I would drop to the floor from my low back giving out and shooting nerve pains. I thought I was cursed and always asked why me.

Fast forward to today and I’m a massage therapist who helps people get out of pain on a daily basis. Without that pain kicking my ass I would have never been motivated enough to learn all I did to help myself. The more you know/understand about the body the easier it becomes to get out of that cycle of pain. Stop relying on other people to fix you. At the end of the day nobody is going to care about your body as much as you do because you’re the one feeling it 24/7. Start learning and never look back, your body will thank you. :)

I visited 3 doctors. The first a rheumatologist, second orthopaedic surgeon, third a physiatrist since the summer of 2007! It’s been so long since I’ve been suffering. They are all renowned in their field but none of them helped me! Thru watching random vids I’ve realized that my case is lordosis. Bloggers are generous for sharing. I had always feel something wrong with my body and I feel sorry for realizing this too late. The next generation is very lucky to have this access. Thank you for all the knowledge so I can finally fix my body.

“Go and fix your shit” 👏👏 the realest statement ever spoken. As someone that has suffered from chronic pain my whole life, I will tell you this man ain’t joking. Go see the doctors, PTs, chiropractors, natural healers and all that good stuff, AND remember it only works if you are 100% committed to taking responsibility over your wellbeing, advocating for yourself, knowing your body and not taking NO for answer. Happy healing my fellow chronic pain sufferers 🙏🏾☺️

Had back pain to the point that I was given an option to have surgery or get used to the pain. I wasn’t comfortable with surgery and worked to strengthen my back by doing gentle exercise and changed my job ! It worked 👍🏻

DUDE. I learned this the hard way. No dr ever told me this. A personal trainer did.. But not exactly in these words. I was told posture was important so i paid attention. Learning how to do a squat properly was how I realized my posture was one of my biggest problems. Seeing this video just reminded me. I blew my back out just from not posturing right while heavy lifting. Thanks for putting this out.

I had C-Spine fusion at discs 5 & 6 in 2018. The surgery helped ease the pain I was having due to disc herniation. The surgeon went in though my throat not my spine. To this day I'm grateful for the relief 😌.

💯. Physicians don’t care about you getting better. They’ll do the surgeries but that’s it. You’re the only one that fix you. I’m on the wrong end of it. Listen to this guy. There’s a reason for this !!
