Jay Shetty sits down with Dr. Julie Smith to talk about how we deal with our emotions. As a way to cope with difficult situations, we often attempt to block the negative emotions. We tend to shut ourselves down without realizing that blocking negative emotions also means blocking any other emotion. We are built to feel positive and negative emotions everyday because that’s what makes us human.

Dr. Smith is a Clinical Psychologist, online educator, blogger, and owner of a private practice in Hampshire, England. She has devoted her career to learning everything she can about adult mental health and the intricacies of the human mind. She made it her mission to help as many people as she can to thrive.

What to Listen For:
00:00 Intro
02:23 The root of the biggest problems people are facing today
05:08 Why are we outsourcing our wellbeing?

16:04 Some days, you just don’t feel motivated

To the *incredible person* seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.

The greatest skill one can have is, seeing the light in darkness and knowing it's the end of the tunnel, and keep it in sight till you get there. Not so easy for some. We always gain something new when we do. Each tunnel is a lesson, some longer than others. But a lesson never the less.🕯️💡⚔️

This was a great episode as always.

Some of my takeaways:
-- Learn to embrace and understand our negative/unpleasant emotions. This opens the doors for us to experience happiness/joy fully.
-- Avoid depending on emotions/motivation. Instead focus on WHY you're doing something.
-- Practice and condition yourself to purposefully make a choice when certain urges arise.
-- Enjoy yourself alongside anxiety.

Thank you to Dr. Julie Smith and the great Jay Shetty for an insightful experience.

I’ve just finished a personal development and growth course . Best thing I ever ever done . I thought I was emotionally intelligent until I started this course . It was a group of 18 people and I would totally recommend one of you could do it . What I loved was, it wasn’t airy fairy tripe, it was so relatable and real. I personally think everyone should do it !♥️

I am working on sitting with my self. Accepting everything and trying to like myself more. From Me going in and out of my anxiety and depression. And most of all suffering with my past traumas. Now, trying to write my own book with my own experiences that need to be talked about more.

Thank you Jay! I love this podcast with Dr. Julie Smith it touched on so many thoughts of anxiety and how to cope and even to identify it. I do agree with Dr. Smith to journal. It is a practice I’ve taken on after listening to meditation in the Calm app. I make it a point also to include your daily Jay meditation. I find journaling really helps put thoughts into perspective. I walk away with a sense of peace and calmness and less confused of my feelings. Journaling has turned out to be a very useful method for good mental health and well-being. May God continue to bless you and your “on Purpose “ podcasts that you dedicate your precious time to help humanity. I am truly grateful🙏🏻
