There's actually a better way to do the "nether portal lava technique", dig a hole the width of a nether portal, make a cobblestone frame the height of a nether portal - 1 (where you place the cobblestone it will be probably on a grass block that you didn't dig out) then make a waterfall under that cobblestone frame, then simply place the lava bucket where you want it to be! easy. (For anyone who wants an easier alternative)
