Last guy got it. There are certain countries that have too strong of an alliance with the US for them to be neglected. Japan is one of those countries. If you attack Canada, the UK, any NATO country, S. Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand... You're essentially attacking the US too.

The US would fear ceding ground (for its own self interest) in such cases, and so they will definitely get involved.

Last guy was the only smart one. We have lots of personnel and equipment there already. S. Korea and Japan, are strong allies that are necessary in an upcoming war with China. So of course we would commit lots of aid and soldiers to defend them.

The wild card is Taiwan. The first two speaker answers would apply more toward taiwan. The US doesn't have any large military footprint due to shortsighted politicans, 'because politics'. So with Taiwan, I don't know if the US would provide manpower for fighting, but definitely all the logistics, and weaponry we could provide. But if it were up to me, of course we'd go help.

Ukraine is a different story. No, the US isn't 'offering up' Ukraine to Russia. But the US would like the war to end. Putin definitely miscalculated the whole thing. He wanted to prevent NATO growth. It now has 2 more countries. He thought it would be a quick US style campaign, it's now two years in; and the Russian war machine has been decimated. Neither side wants to capitulate, and a third party like the US forcing their hands to the negotiation table, is likely the only way Ukraine and Russia can save face.

It's more that US allies will protect them by giving them more time to react and secure themselves. They are doing little to deter threats against their Asian allies or even stop them. Seems they have other interests that they don't want threatened with those that are threatening their allies.

In my humble opinion, the US would assist South Korea in any war-like events or attacks.

With the current military bases, equipment (THADD, nuclear submarines), and the naval capabilities near South Korea, I would hope there would be no second guessing. As for what "demands" would be made, it's difficult to say. I would assume financial requests since war can be expensive. Though considering South Korea and the US have been close allies for 71 years now, who have also shed blood together on the battlefield, I'd like to be optimistic in our relationship.

It would depend who the invader is. If Japan decides in 2-3 decades to reignite their imperial desires given they're rebuilding their military, Korea will be rebuffed by the US just as US did when Japan colonized Korea; in fact, lest people forget, US and Western countries approved of Japan invading Korea and laughed at Korea dignitaries who went to Europe to plead for help. People tend to forget history most often repeats.

The US, have been helping South Korea and protecting the country for a long time. Even though in some part of Korea the American soldiers are treated badly. I have issues when Americans soldiers sacrificed their life for countries that are ungrateful 🌏🇺🇸
