This gives a whole new meaning to the “press F to pay respect” thing

Lol the 4th floor thing is same here in China. This is because in both Mandarin and Cantonese, "four (四)" is pronounced "si" (“sei” in Cantonese), and "death (死)" is also pronounced "si". At least in my province (Guangdong), you can often see "4" being replaced by "3A", "3.5", and "3+", or skipped altogether 😂

In our country most lifts have 13 floor skipped 12->14 direct 😂

4 also sounds like "Death" in Chinese, and many buildings with Chinese owners back in my home country tend to skip the 4th floor altogether, or replace it with '3A'. Funnily enough, when I went to China to study I find many buildings using the 4th floor as usual, so there is that.

Some building in Malaysia also don't have number 4 floor. They replaced it with 3A or F

So, the first time I arrive to Korea I went to 5th floor and took the stairs to 4th floor 😂

일본에서도 같은 느낌이에요 ㅋㅋ
Same feeling in Japan haha
“4” can read two ways, よん(욘 yon) or し(시 shi) = 死 (시 shi)
그리고 중국어도 4에 사의 의미가 있었던 것 같아요…
I believe Chinese also has the meaning of death in 4…

honestly if their problem was it sounds like "death" I think they should have just renamed that number years ago, then they wouldn't have to avoid saying it, and they wouldn't have to be all superstitious about it or be afraid of it. Buildings in my country have the 4th floor (4 elevator button) and its all fine lol.

Also in Chinese, 4 means death
It's because the sound is similar to "死"
So basically tall building skip the floor number that with 4

4 means death(死) and 9 means suffering(苦) in Japanese, So commonly we don't have 4 and 9 in the hotel room number.
