Lance, please know how much we appreciate all your videos. You are down to earth and make the explanations easy enough that even I can understand. I appreciate that you still use the Mac Pro 5, 1 as it is my main work horse. Wishing you and your channel all the best!

Nice. Thanks for the video. I have an M1 that I use for a daily, but I just dug my 6-core 5.1 out of storage and was looking to tinker with opencore.

Thank you for this video man. I literally waited it before doing the whole thing. Although written guides are clear, this video helps us a lot.

Lance I don’t know if you’ll read this but I wanted to thank you for putting up such comprehensive easy to follow guides for this stuff. I was able to flash my 6800 XT, install Monterey, and install Windows 11 just from watching your videos. Your voice and delivery really put me at ease while I was going through these processes and really helped me not be so nervous doing some of the trickier stuff. I owe you one for sure.

Thanks for the video Lance. Just for keep things simpler, is possible to install directly Monterey using a usb thumb created with OCLP and then don´t build and apply OCLP patches but put the Martin Lo EFI in the 1st bay hd. Then a PRam reset just for be sure to not confuse OC with OCLP nvram things (with this method is possible to install directly also Ventura and Sonoma). Otherwise you can create a Monterey thumb with the createmedia command from terminal and then write the Martin Lo EFI folder on the thumb efi partition. Tested both method!

You read my mind. Haven’t tinkered w my 5, 1 for a while, and this has been in the back of my mind. I’ll take a crack at it this weekend. Thanks.

so many steps, but at least finally someone clearly demoed and explained it. (even though for me, I'm content with MX23 linux on it)

Hey Lance, is it still worth it to use Martin Lo's package? OCLP seems to work just fine, easier and provides support for bluetooth and wifi...

Actually you can install OC and Monterey with a standard PC Card, like Radeon 470/570 480/58 using open core legacy patcher. No need for Mac card or GOP. Simply remove all drives and boot from the installer USB. Then PRAM reset and then turn-off and put in the new SSD and install, voila. Am pretty sure we don't need to disable SIPS with OC. OC will turn it back on anyway, that was needed for the Dos Dude patch Catalina. Also Mac boot cards are no longer needed for the boot screen, OC has its own black boatload screen. If you need to change drives then leave the boot loader on in OC settings and set the time-out for long enough to select a drive, before it self selects. OCLP avoids all of the plist changes and use of terminal. Can't go beyond Monterey without OCLP. Personally doubt I ever will upgrade my 5, 1 beyond Monterey. thanks for the videos. The Bluetooth upgrade video is the BEST video and a MUST upgrade for every 5, 1.

Thanks so much Lance. This video is greatly appreciated!
It seems as though my Mac Pro 2012 didn’t like OCLP. My 2009 Mac Pro with M Lo’s OC and Monterey is truly smooth.

Hey Lance, is it necessary to enableGOP in this process? I have an AMD RX280 and no apple EFI GPU. Also I tried Mcshrawber’s ROM tool and it would not run.

Great stuff Lance and thanks for sharing your journeys with the Mac Pro's. How's the Mac Pro 7, 1 holding the hardware you moved from the 5, 1? Cheers

Lance, can you summarize the principle motivation for using Martin Lo's preconfigured EFI vs. just using OCLP? (assuming Monterey). Is this just a matter of familiarity, or is there a compelling technical advantage in your system? One thing I like about the OCLP approach (for the 5, 1 anyway) is that it leaves the system seal in place, so Apple Software Restore still work for bootable backups. Is that also true with Martin Lo's package?
