Great video ! No B.S... just fast paced explanations and descripions of the different flavours of Linux Mint.

Very well done!

XFCE for the lightest, Cinnamon for the most user friendly, and MATE for the best of both worlds.

I like them all, XFCE is the one that fits for me. Casual user. I find it very easy to modify for my usage.

Can we have a moment of silence for Mint KDE 😭...

Just to clarify, Compiz is included with Xfce. In the [Settings - Desktop Settings] you will find a selection of several compositing choices, including Compiz, Metacity, Compton, and Xfwm4.

I feel like MATE's killer feature is this: applications can integrate their settings/preferences into the MATE Control Center. For example, even though MATE does not have desktop widgets out of the box, a third-party solution still integrates into the settings.

I tried Cinnamon on my laptop, but I chose XFCE for better battery life, cooler temps, and lower fan speed.

Thank you for sharing. I like the concept for the video. Will you do one comparing the Ubuntu desktops? Specifically comparing the mate to the standard gnome?

Nice comparative video Tom. 👍
I use Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon.
I find this desktop is best for me.
However, in case of themes, cursor packs, cinnamon has limited options. The themes are ok & additional options aren't too good. I tried Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with cinnamon & it had red cursor which is absent in LM! I accidentally came to know about tux cursor which is on gnome look. It's great. I can't find a theme where the menu also looks transparent. Rest of cinnamon is almost perfect.

My 2 cents, the main desktop from any distribution usually runs with less known bugs. Cinnamon in mint runs best.

Hey could you do a video on your fonts set up for mint. Or could someone send a link for a great font set up to help for optimal viewing

I installed xfce on an old HP Mini netbook with a 1.66GHZ Atom chip and only 1GB of RAM. Works quite well, but memory starts running low if you have too many tabs open in your browser but for basic tasks (inclduing watching DVD quality MP4s) it's fine. I initially tried MATE but it took up too much RAM.

Good comparisons... I run Cinnamon on my laptop, and it runs lightning fast. However, I may have to give Mate a try.

I have 3 hdds in a 6 yr. old box, Linux Lite 4, Mint 19 Xfce, Peppermint 9, Kde Neon and MX-17. I boot into the one that fits my mood.

What do you mean by "moderns functions and features" exactly? What do you mean by "online accounts"? You almost sound like the other desktops beside Cinnamon don't even have browsers - which is basically all you need for any online accounts and modern features. Frankly this video didn't clear much up besides that XFCE is probably the most lightweight => thus less bloat => thus probably snappiest and best option. Right? :D

Hi
Will linux mint cinnamon support tableau?🤔

I tried Cinnamon on my laptop, but it had poor battery life. XFCE was wrecking havoc on Nvidia drivers, so I use MATE on my laptop and it runs fine, albeit a few bugs. Cinnamon is the best version for desktops and servers.

Sir, I'm having difficulties choosing the correct distro. My laptop specs are intel celeron 900 2.2Ghz, 3GB DDR2 RAM and 500GB HDD. It's a 10 yr old one. Can you please suggest one for me?
