Was the Puppet RETCONNED in Pizzeria Simulator? - FNAF Theory

When the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's, Scott Cawthon, said that he had retconned one thing in the FNAF lore, many people wanted to know what that one thing may have been. Nowadays, many assume that it's the Puppet being a boy in FNAF 2 and a girl in FNAF 6, but I don't think that's technically accurate.

The retcon Scott was referring to is the fact that the phone guy was actually balloon boy the whole time (they both say hello)

I think the retcon might be that in FNaF 4, the Nightmares were sound illusion disks, but then SL hinted it was Hallucinogenic gas.

this is probably a long shot but maybe the "him" is actually referring to Henry himself. As in saving him from the devastating loss of her daughter and everything that happens after Charlie's death.

THANK you! I've seen so many people try to say that the Puppet was The One Retcon™, when the timeline doesn't work for that at all; in order for a retcon to have been "seamlessly integrated", it kind of needs to have already been integrated, no?

it could link into the books, , in the books charlie has a brother “sammy” so the “save him” could be a reference to the future book series.

I feel like it's maaaybe retconning the source of the scent that led the FNAF 1 location to be closed? I think in the first game, it was implied the scent of the animatronics led to the building shutting it's doors. But I think by FNAF 3, it started to be implied to be caused by William's rotting body behind the fake wall? I could be wrong

The retcon was actually likely just the entirety of FNaF1,
Not only does it fit the bill of ‘no one had noticed’ since even now people haven’t really caught on to it.
But a majority of the relevant story in FNaF1 is completely disconnected from the larger franchise because it was originally made to be a one and done story as Scott didn’t much expect it to blow up.

MCI happened in the FNaF1 building originally

Killer/Afton was originally convicted

Heavily implied that FNaF1 was the only location and FazEnt wasn’t an actual successful company

I find it interesting how this happens so much in FNaF, like in UCN it hints that “The One He Should Not Have Killed” being a boy (Andrew) while we keep on seeing the soul of Golden Freddy as a girl (Cassidy).

So lets get this straight, we know that retcons are changes, plain and simple, and this retcon was seamless, and this was BEFORE F.N.A.F.6.
So by this point, we have F.N.A.F.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, World, Silver Eyes and Twisted Ones novels, and other things I may have forgot about.
I think we should reflect on what was in those games, and see what details have changed.
Maybe there was something in the earlier games that didn’t line up with the later games.
I think F.N.A.F.5 may have had a retcon with perhaps Aubergine Man Jr (Michael Schmidt) may have been not an important character until F.N.A.F.5, where in F.N.A.F.1, he was just a night watch.
Heck, maybe he was retconned to be the Foxy Bro in F.N.A.F.4, tying all the other games together.

Probably the retcon is just William don't get convicted (how we seen in the FNaF 1 papers) because otherwise Follow Me couldn't happen

im pretty sure the 'retcon' was turning the 'dream theory' into 'they were all games'

technically, it was a double fakeout either way (it happened -> it was all fake -> 99% based on real events) type of thing

I saw a theory a while back on how spring Bonnie being the killer was the retcon. Stating that the it’s me in the first two games were saying how golden Freddy was the suit the killer used and how in the take cake mini game we only see fredbear and not a spring Bonnie

This is a great take that I haven't seen before! I had a different interpretation of the cut scene, I believe that "save him" was referring to the crying child, with the reason for aftons killing spree being to bring him back, or "save him" in a sense, I could go into more detail if youre interested

i really think that if the retcon was as "seamless" as scott says, there really is a good chance that it was never something with significant lore implications. besides that, scott isn't consistent when talking about retcons and story changes either, since he's stated the contents of the box changed multiple times. are each one of those changes retcons?

personally, i don't really care to give it that much thought unless scott feels like he needs to actually clarify the matter, since even he seems to think that there weren't any "problems or confusion"
