I had the same problem and did a FULL suspension rebuild when I bought my car. All bushings, coilovers, ball joints, control arms, tie rods, etc. Still had the problem after. You know what it was? The battery didn't have the FUCKING tie down. It's all good now lol.

My 95’ does the same thing and it’s driving me nuts. My mechanic and I looked for a while and the bushings and mounts are all old but look fine. Battery is mounted properly…. gonna go the same route and pull it all out. My clunking happens over every bump and even sounds like a light metal on metal clinking too. Thanks for the video.

It's an E36...it is going to clunk lol. Did you replace / upgrade your rear shock mounts when you installed your coilovers?

That probably is the clunking noise but might be a good idea to reinforce the trailing arm pockets while you're in there. The stock metal around the bolts holes is super thin compared to the beefy piece the plates are made of. One the bungs on mine was only welded like 3/4 around from factory.

That would be the charcoal canister in the trunk. A possible culprit to my P0455 CEL

I had the same issue with the control arm bushings in my dad's e39 about 2 months ago...the only difference is that i could feel the back end of the car a bit loose when I'm up to speed

Good luck diagnosing that. The first thing you grabbed and asked wtf was the manual release for the gas door. The rest of the random stuff in your trunk looks a bit different from my 328i. That previous owner sure sucked at wiring, lol.

I've had a weird clunking noise too it ended up being my left rtab ripped off my frame so now I need to fix that and I'm going to reinforce my rtabs and rear subframe

Sometimes if suspension bolts arents torqued to spec they can be tight but still cause clunking.

Fyi. Rockauto sells nice cheap brakes. I got a set of 4 drilled and slotted rotors and new pads for $245

If you got coilovers they might be too tight I had this issue for a long time so loose the shock or spring

I think you should keep the sedan fully stock bro, two project cars...hmm. One day you would get sick of all these poly bushings and stuff and you would like to feel like in normal e36 M3. Consider keeping one car fully stock.

Think those wires are for the CD changer

i have the same noises i think, my guess is because i don’t have a battery tie down.
