Today’s topic is a little heavy. It’s for people who are married, still married, about to get a divorce, and your significant other has already moved in with someone else, or is already officially in a relationship with someone else, despite the fact that you are married or you have children together, or despite the fact that you still live together (technically), but they are already seeing someone else.

Those cases are very heartbreaking and difficult for us coaches because we are invested. We care. And we don’t want to see families fall apart. We don’t want to see common life projects break down just because people are going through midlife crises, existential issues, or just caught up in their own selfish desires, and give up on their families.

Coach Adrian worked with a young lady whose husband started to date someone else, despite the fact that they were not officially divorced. It’s tremendously difficult because they have children together, and because she is still holding out hope of making things right. This happens to men too.

The key is for you to quickly, quickly stop chasing this person, and to act like a single person. It doesn’t mean that you need to date anybody, or go against your moral code and to sleep around. But, you need to stop acting as his wife, or her husband, because if you give them everything that they had when you guys were together, there’s nothing for you to fight for.

We don’t want you to compete with another woman or another man for your ex’s attention, for your spouse’s attention. By all intents and purposes, the best way to go is to move forward with the divorce or separation, to prove to you that you’re not desperate, that you’re not going to cling on to the relationship at all costs, that you have self-respect, that you have dreams, that you have hopes, that you have happiness, purpose, and passion, independently of them, independently of the relationship.

And it’s very hard not to be angry, and bitter, and resentful. But, we urge you to take the high-road. Don’t let your significant other drag you into the mud. Let them carry the burden of the chaos that they’ve created by choosing to do the right thing, by acting right, by protecting yourself, your family, what you’ve built, but, by letting them know, “I want to be with someone who wants to be with me. I am happy to move forward with my life, although it breaks my heart, if that is what you feel you need to do. I will do the same.”

This is exactly what I needed to hear. This is the exact situation I am in. My wife is still seeing the guy she had an affair with but still living with me and our children. I am a nice person and always did what I could for her, I would see something she would like, even little things and buy them for her. We've been separated 9 weeks now and I'm still doing it. I keep telling myself to stop but I would still do it. I'm getting over her slowly and from now on this stops. My ex broke up with me & there was a lot of emotional cheating. He said he just didn’t feel the spark in our relationship. I have gone no contact & do not contact him unless it’s about our son. Whenever we see each other because of our son he questions who I’m texting or the things i do (I know he’s hurting). I want to give him his space but I don’t know how to stop letting him think I’m waiting for him to be “ready” . I want him to be scared to lose me but I think he knows I will always be there because we have a child together which keeps us connected.

I always felt like me and my ex were ment to be. I still do. He thought so too for three years or so. We made each other better. At least he made me a better person, and I believe I did the same to him. I miss him so bad. I work really hard on myself because I want him back. But I get both motivated and unmotivated by watching the videoes. I get motivated by hearing "he will likely miss you or rethink the idea" but I get discouraged because I don´t think I will get him back. I just feel it. He seems too done and it´s been too long. And he does not care, and probably does not even know that I am changing. It it hopeless

I really needed this. I've been strugling because we still live together, we have a 4 year old son together and she said she doesn't love me anymore. So we sleep in different rooms now, a couple of days later she told me she kissed another guy and a couple of days ago I saw pictures of her with another guy... So that's it for me, time to time I feel like want her back but I think this is just too much for me. I wish I could go somewhere else and live by myself, but there is not enough money for that and we have a very complicated migration status since we moved from one country to another... I'm doing all I can to move on but it is so hard.

My boyfriend broke up with me, (the day I told him I loved him) and he said it was because he didn't know when he would get to the love state with me and didn't know if he could. He said I am everything he had ever wanted and that dating me he was the happiest he has ever been. But the day I told him I loved him he felt bad that he couldn't say it back and ended the relationship bc he was not sure if he could get there. This is my situation right now, my ex and I are still “friends” and we have 2 daughters 4years old and 5 months old. We broke up while I was pregnant and continued to live together. He moved on immediately after the break up which I initiated, but it was intended to be a “break” but he used the opportunity to see other women. I’m in the process of moving out soon, just started a new job and I was a stay at home mom for the past 6 months. He pays all the bills right now. He spends the night with other women but creeps back in before the girls wake up in the morning so they have no ideas we are not together anymore. I still live my ex and want our family to work. Any advice?
